Playing with friends, eating sweets, reading, killing prostitutes and watching telly, i can understand all that. Powerlifting!? I cant help but think of a little girl willing to please her selfish father! All respect whatsoever.

Hasn't always been a bench press specialist Member 44, 1907 posts SQ 252.5, BP 220, DL 210682.5 kgs @ 83kgs Eq | PhilE said: It's pretty plausible that a young kid would be keen to try powerlifting if one or both of their parents did it. And with any sport (or skill, like learning a musical instrument) there are bound to be times when they can't be arsed but their parents tell them they have to train/practise. However, you've got to wonder how this is going to affect the child's physical development. Training with weights at age 10 might be doable with no issues (I'm no expert), but max lifts, and more than that, EQUIPPED max lifts at such a young age seems sure to cause problems. And for those that mention young children doing gymnastics, don't plenty of those end up crippled/stunted? I think the Russians discovered that doing weights from a young age caused bones to thicken, which would be an advantage, but to use equipment at that ages is insanity wait till at least 18 i reckon.

The one in the guns and roses teeshirt. Member 171, 2462 posts SQ 272.5, BP 140, DL 245657.5 kgs @ 80.2kgs Eq | All of you who oppose this so strongly, do you know at all whether she maybe wanted to do this by her self? If one of/both her parents powerlift she might have said she wanted to do it herself which is fair enough. As for using a bench shirt at such a young age the jury is still out on the whole shirt-for-injury prevention thesis but it does have some logic to it.

E.g. If Rick's secret love child wanted to be an assassin, would that be OK?

Weak training is still training. Member 63, 260 posts SQ 135, BP 110, DL 195440.0 kgs @ 78kgs UnEq | 'If' it is damaging though it doesn't really matter if she enjoys it or wants to do it. At that age she doesnt know whats best for her.

I don't push him, he comes in the garage when I train and lifts with me or his Mum. Kids copy their parents and if the little Girl's Mum or Dad lifts weights she probably just copied them. The Dad is not necessarily pushing her, he might just be encouraging her.
