MrSmall said:Nothing wrong with a neutral back (arguably strongest/healthiest position) on pulls, snatch, clean. You can't do it on power jerks and squat jerks as you need more weight back so you need to arch out for balance.

snatch catch

jerk catch

pull with flat back, head up but without involving the cervical spine (the head is supposed to be able to tilt and rotate 'independently' to the spine)

clean catch

Now Lu has exceptional flexibility to get into these awesome positions but I think it loads the body better. Just its not easy to do.

Your second pulls are a bit messed up so you are offbalance, which pulls you further forward, so on the first rep you just recover from there and jump forward to compensate, and on the second one you catch forward and then at the bottom adjust by shifting backwards. You also might be lacking in the mobility to get into this positions in any way but to "sink" into them which just won't happen with heavy weights as you need to get there instantly. But I can't say for sure there.

Just some extra ingredients for your weightlifting stew, Dave.

Looking good for the 77s next year! Grin

For a moment I thought you were comparing your technique to Chigishev's and I was wondering if you were really Paul Savage's alter ego. Since you are better technically and lighter than ever so you will be faster, no reason why you can't hit a 150kg snatch this year.

Cheers Smalls, managed to put it better than i did. I really try to avoid cervical craning, and due to the tightness in my upper traps I can't tilt my head up without it impacting on Cspine, hence head being kept neutral, rather than just spine, although I still see way too many heavily extended Cspines for my liking.

The second pull is down to my shoulder. I currently powersnatch way over 90 if I hit my pull properly. My pull is strong at the moment, my issue is getting under the bar. I can't pull under properly so the best way for me to work on receiving the bar better is by choking my pull. Also been hitting snatch balance a lot which is helping. The problem is essentially that I can't release and regain tension in my left shoulder, but it is steadily improving. Mobility isn't an issue in the sn.position, it's pretty good currently.

The shadow cast by my surgery is far reaching Unhappy

Oh, and I'm currently 104 Grin

Can't see why shortening/slowing the pull down will make the shoulder easier, if anything it will be worse. Or do you mean at the bottom catch vs high catch?

Just saying because if my pulls are short my shoulders hurt, same with the drive at the jerk as its out in front and I have to pull it back. Then again your injury might affect things differently.

This. I need to keep everything tight, so working on getting underneath better from a lower bar at the 'end' of the pull. I've also been working on full, but slow, pulls for the same effect, which i suspect will be more beneficial.

Squat
Bulls**t x plenty

Another non starter today. Just like last week, tired, lethargic and not arsed. My diet needs a tweak, and I probably need to start the next little block of lifting after 3 weeks rather than the planned 4.

Assuming you're talking about staggered grip versus double overhand with straps, the difference in your upper and middle back is significant.

Always wondered why I can pull / feel more comfortable DOH! Thank you MR Carpetlover

Chopped things around a bit to help me recover a little better and my knees to continue improving. The high threshold volume has started a regression of my hip flexor / quad issue and the associated knee pain. Very frustrating after all the work I spent getting it right, so need to turn it back around. So less top end work per session it is. Getting old Unhappy

Hip snatch 50kg 10 x 2

Front squat 120kg x 5
Push press 100kg x 5
Deadlift 180kg x 5

Dips x 15
Pull ups x 15
Sit ups x 15

Very good, happy with that considering I couldn't even back squat 120kg yesterday. There's a lot to be said for spending an intimate evening with your car polisher Grin
