He is looking up though whereas you are looking at the floor. Maybe it will work for you, only time will tell! It will be interesting to see how it develops.

Edit: That reads as being a bit pissy, it's not lol

Hamstrings feel activated. Member 1107, 6964 posts SQ 220, BP 152.5, DL 252.5625.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | I have a question Mr Gorilla, which I don't believe requires it's own thread but I would like to know your opinion on the matter. Do you think Deadlifting with straps alters the muscles used during heavy Deadlift reps?

Do you think Deadlifting with straps alters the muscles used during heavy Deadlift reps? In a nutshell, yes. Assuming you're talking about staggered grip versus double overhand with straps, the difference in your upper and middle back is significant.

the UK's leading expert in bio mechanics Member 1973, 7379 posts | Wednesday 21/05/2014 Warmed up. Generally tired, tight, sore and 'meh' for want of a better word. I'm really in tune with my body at the moment so no qualms in ditching the session, going to go fishing for a couple of hours in the evening sunshine instead I think.

So the emphasis on upper and middle back muscle increases with a DOH with strap grip versus a staggered grip and therefore, emphasis on erectors, stil significant, is reduced?

Gone and easily forgotten....... Member 331, 22298 posts SQ 185, BP 100, DL 230515.0 kgs @ 85kgs UnEq | Post Edited: 22.05.2014 @ 18:02 PM by MrSmall Nothing wrong with a neutral back (arguably strongest/healthiest position) on pulls, snatch, clean. You can't do it on power jerks and squat jerks as you need more weight back so you need to arch out for balance. snatch catch http://26k6hw2r4n5l2etfld4mgwh1a80.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-... jerk catch http://kaw.stb.s-msn.com/i/6A/6058E3493C9E701D98AEA7C08CAA20.j... pull with flat back, head up but without involving the cervical spine (the head is supposed to be able to tilt and rotate 'independently' to the spine) http://nimg.sulekha.com/sports/thumbnailfull/lu-xiaojun-2009-1... clean catch http://www.redrivercrossfit.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/Wei... Now Lu has exceptional flexibility to get into these awesome positions but I think it loads the body better. Just its not easy to do. Your second pulls are a bit messed up so you are offbalance, which pulls you further forward, so on the first rep you just recover from there and jump forward to compensate, and on the second one you catch forward and then at the bottom adjust by shifting backwards. You also might be lacking in the mobility to get into this positions in any way but to "sink" into them which just won't happen with heavy weights as you need to get there instantly. But I can't say for sure there. Just some extra ingredients for your weightlifting stew, Dave. Looking good for the 77s next year! For a moment I thought you were comparing your technique to Chigishev's and I was wondering if you were really Paul Savage's alter ego. Since you are better technically and lighter than ever so you will be faster, no reason why you can't hit a 150kg snatch this year.
