Saturday: "Cry Me a River" CrossFit/Concept2 challenge, workout 1

3 min KB swings 24kg
1 min rest
3 min hand-release push-ups
1 min rest
3 min box jumps 24"
1 min rest
3 min erg (calories)

Order was left open, but this was what looked best (separating the leg exercises, erg at the end because it "pays" less). Pretty loose movement standards (Russian short-armed swings; "ground to plank" push-ups; jumps or step ups/downs), thankfully.

110+69+68+81=328 Best score at the local box (just barely, and all thanks to the rowing) but blown out of the water by some CF specialists elsewhere. bas***ds must have gotten over 100 reps on everything except the erg. Grin

Thoughts:

- f**king hate push-ups in any form.
- Can't box jump for s**t these days.
- 81 cals = 940m = 1:35.7/500m. Started out too fast (sub-1:35), held on to sub 1:40 in the middle then had a half-decent sub-1:35 sprint at the end.

I was hoping to flip a tire, pull a sled and/or jerk a fat-gripzed bar after, but I was completely knackered -much more than after a rowing-only workout- and it was too late to hang around and recover long enough to do any useful training, so I headed home. Embarassed

Thanks! I'm feeling confident about the training for now. Different story with the comp. Roll-Eyes

Thanks fellas. So basically just cut off training with a few days of complete rest then. Sounds good to me!

What do people usually do the week or so before a lifting or strongman competition? For endurance events I normally taper, keeping some high intensity stuff but reducing volume significantly. Would the same principles apply for strength events?

Cycle 1 Week 3

Deadlift

136x5
154x3
172x8

Aiming for 7, so happy with that. The Excel sheet tells me I'm getting stronger, can't argue with a computer. Grin I'm guessing a time will come when I'll actually be doing closer to 5/3/1 reps on my last sets, but it looks like it's going to take a few cycles. I'm retesting my 1RMs mid May, so I'll have fresh numbers to work from.

GM 45kg 5x10

Kroc rows 55kg 16r/15l, 15r/14l

The variety (and intensity) is what keep me interested. It leaves me feeling sore as hell though so I'm going to have to find ways to fit it in better with my strength training. I gave today's WOD a miss though as I think I would have still been sore from it next Wednesday, never mind this Sunday:

For time:
50 Box jump, 24 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 16kg
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 20kg
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 10kg ball
50 Burpees
50 Double unders

Horrendous.

Ah, the filthy 50... I don't know what I hate more, the 50 K2E or the 50 DUs at the end. Tongue

Yeah, fitting in a WOD can be tricky. Keeping them short and heavy is one way to go, but you don't always have the choice if you're following a particular gym's programming.

Nicely done!
» under 90 comps?? (Go to post)11-04-2012 @ 16:10
Count your blessings, gents. There's going to be a grand total of 4 comps in France this year, no weight classes or novice category (in other words I'm toast). In Switzerland it's a bit better: 3 comps, with the full range of u90 noob / u105 noob / open noob / u105 / open, depending on entrants (notice there's no regular u90 cat).

That said, keep the u90 comps coming! It sets an example for less fortunate countries.

Very nice axle clean. You don't see many people going straight to the rack with 140kg.

Cycle 1 Week 3

2k erg warm-up

CGBP

What I had planned:

62.5kg x5
70kg x3
77.5kg x8+

What transpired:

db bench press 30kg x5
db bench press 34kg x4
bb bench press 67.5kg x15
bb bench press 77.5kg x8

The only bench press station was taken, so I warmed up using dumbells and eventually did my first two work sets with dumbells as well. I still wanted to do my "1+" with a barbell to track my progress, so I asked to work in. No problem, the guy says, so I slap on a few extra plates, set up and get going. In the back of my mind I knew the bar felt light from the start but it's only when I hit rep #8 with ease that it clicked that I had messed up my mathematics like an idiot.  I still pushed through, what the hell... Then waited a bit and finally did my last set with the correct weight. I'm happy I managed 8 reps like I wanted, otherwise I would have been pretty pissed at myself.

Overhead press
27kg bb 3x10
16kg db's 5 press + 5 push-press, 5 press + 2 push-press (lost tightness :x ) + 3 push-press

Pull-ups
Regular x10, chins x10, regular x9.5, chins x6+3+1, called it a day. No sense in botching your assistance exercises. Especially if you're a pussy. Cool

I think that extra CGBP set took its toll at the end. My triceps were fried and I could really feel it at the bottom of the chinups.

That must have been a perilous bike journey! It was a lovely place to play. They really looked after us and apologised profusely for not being able to provide us with a particular soft drink. A lady in a bikini was assigned to look after us all night. These days I just get asked to play at Cat s**t Dave's brother in law's wedding. Unhappy
I take you don't live there any more then?

[Crapaholy you have to dig deep to find a journal sometimes. Roll-Eyes ]

Yeah, I live in sleepy Geneva now. Home of bankers, watchmakers and sweet f**k all in terms of good gyms, except for a CF box downtown that is starting to work up a good head of steam, and another one further out by the lake that has a couple tires and sleds.

Same question here, how's it looking for your back?
