I'm going to be doing these on a semi-regular basis I think. Need to sort out my lift technique. Do people chalk their arms sometimes? It got pretty hairy with a slick gym bar on a sweaty day. Zercher lift 70kg (disastrous transition, called it a day), Zercher squat 80kg (x3)

Post Edited: 31.03.2012 @ 06:42 AM by macroth Thanks Boar, Kirk (or is it Nick? ) Geneva is close to the mountains and by the lake. It's also boringly peaceful most of the time, although since this is the dirty, dangerous, Latin side of Switzerland, it's not boringly peaceful all the time.Gingy, I haven't been in a boat in 10 years, and was never really good at that OTW stuff. No balance, boat-stopping technique, you get the picture. My best erg times, all from this season, are 1:22.7 (500m), 2:58.5 (1k), 6:16.7 (2k), 17:09.8 (5k). Obviously I'm better at the short stuff. Going back to weight training has been a shock to the system. Gonna have to be cautious at first.

Thanks, guys. The overhead event starts with an 80kg cement block, then a 100kg axle, then the 120kg log. I'd like to get as far as shouldering the log.

Post Edited: 28.02.2013 @ 15:27 PM by macroth Hello,Forum noob here, looking to inflict my training log on you fine people for the next several months at least. You can blame boar, who I know from his recent forays into indoor rowing and met quickly in Nottingham this past Sunday. The name's Ewen, I'm 33, and all 90kg of me live in the quiet town of Geneva, Switzerland. I got it into my head to do a few strongman comps in France this summer and now that the erging season is over I really need to focus on becoming less weak. First comp is on May 19th and I'm pretty sure I'm going to die, either from embarrassment or from dropping a 120kg log on my head. I hope it's the latter, since that would mean I got the damn thing overhead in the first place. Success! I'll be pushing through a modified Wendler 5/3/1: squat, CG bench, deadlift, plus one day of weird sh!t in the gym that should bear a passing resemblance to strongman events, focusing on overhead strength and grip. Any advice is welcome. On we go then: Cycle 1 Week 1 Monday - Squat 90kg x 5 93kg x 5 103kg x 8 Front squat, 40kg 5x10 Hanging leg raises, 5x10 Belt and knee sleeves for the squats. First time wearing the sleeves, which felt weird but not bad. Legs are toast today. Great start. |
