Looking to do SIA for extra cash. Is it worth the hassle and is there plenty of work??

No. With no experience you'll be looking at 8-10 an hour depending where you are. I've done it for 5 years on and off. It's s**t, not worth it, and I hate it.

Depends where you work. One town is different to another on both counts.

Mostly the latter to be honest. Altho there are some nuggets on the doors too.

i've done events in the past. they're not too bad for extra cash. not done too many doors but wouldn't want to. not worth the hassle of possible stabbings etc. for 10 pound an hour, depends where of course. i won't be renewing my badge next year. if you had a nice venue on the other hand that maybe paid more with reasonable hours it would be worth it.

I've been on the doors now for the last 9 years pretty much every weekend and it's one of those things that can get under your skin. Times have changed and their are a large number of people working who are more likely to get you into trouble than prevent it. And you don't get a lot of money for it and the risk of being stabbed, shot etc is unfortunately quite high again depending on where you work. If you do decide to get it don't go on thinking you have a point to prove, be polite and professional and you can get on ok. It would certainly be worth looking at the summer festival circuit in the summer as their is some good money to be made

I did it for 3-years a good while back. Only being 5'7" meant that I was never put on the really naughty venues. They want the big lumps for that, so for me it was relatively easy money.

That said, it's easy money until a broken pint glass is shoved in your face, then £1,000 an hour isn't worth it! I drive past the guys on the doors in the middle of winter now and think "poor bas***ds!"

You could do the doors at Alton Towers. If they're shorter than you they can't go on the rides.

tell me about it, i got surrounded by a bunch of gypsies looking for a fight probably because i'm big, was only about 10 yards from four doorman and they did nothing but stand and watch!!

somehow got out of it, but i was lucky because i don't think they'd have stepped in at any point if i'd of needed them

yes thats all too common now, in the past those 4 lads would have been banished from the door in shame, and been given a slap from the gaffa, now its accepted ! We worked bang in the centre in a line of bars ,and within 20seconds as soon as someone so much as growled at you ,you could have 6 to 8 top lads who would stand with you against anyone

There are still some good lads about but they are few and far between. Due to 2 reasons it seems. 1 is the non confrontational stance that police expect you to take and all the cctv. Can't get away with anything, even self defence. And also the fact that you were getting £10 an hour 10 years ago and are still only getting it now.

I really want to get off the doors and get back into 9-5 work due to these 2 factors but work is hard to find. Sometimes I wish they would just take my badge off me. Stupid to think like that but that's what it does to you.

what gets me is that when I first started on the doors was about 13.5st and was a f**king midget compared to most lads. (f**k off Jabba before you say anything)

Nowadays half the lads I see on the doors are 12st pretty boys who look like they couldn't do f**k all even if they wanted. I know that size isn't anything but it help when dealing with a bunch of dickheads.
