Hi all,I'm very new to this game and would really like to have a go at competing if I can, how good/strong do you need to be to qualify for a competition?
Any help would be great!!

Cheers.

if its an open comp there is no qualifying weight, just have a go, my first comp i was one of the weakest guys there but its about having fun and gaining experience, everyone will be really supportive whether you squat 50k or 250k, it doesnt matter, just read up on the rules etc and give it a go!

if i remember rightly my first comp was 130/75/190 in the 90 class but i learnt loads, make sure you technique is up to the standards of the fed you are going to lift with (depth on squats, pause on bench, no hitch on deadlifts etc) and learn to lift to commands

Good luck! You don't have to qualify to lift in a BDFPA regional and as others have said, everyone is supportive of new lifters, doesn't matter what you are lifting.

Your regional rep should be able to give you advice about the competition itself, rules, correct clothing etc (you will need the right kit).

Here's a post I wrote a couple of years ago about my first powerlifting meet, which was BDFPA. Have a read, it could be useful!

Hi Nick

Where are you in the country. The BDFPA is having its un-equiped national comp this coming weekend in Bournmouth, which I would totally recommend dropping to see whats going on

Cheers
Steve

Hi Nick

Yup, lifting Sunday, in the 100kg group, but I may slip in to the 110 as I'm close on weight. You wont miss me, I'm the gobs**te prior ro lifts, a bad habit that I hate :-S
