They are certainly legal in BDFPA / WDFPF comp and I'm pretty sure most of the rules are copied and pasted between the feds Here are the IPF rules Shoes or boots Shoes or boots shall be worn.
Vibrams certainly class as 'indoor sports shoes' and as such I can't see any reason why they should not be allowed....

My opinions have run their course Member 694, 3112 posts | squat in oly shoes, deadlift barefoot (socks).... wouldn't fancy running around barefoot outdoors though.... but I bet it's better than using crap trainers... did a course about 2 years ago with Royal Marines and didn't expect much running about. How wrong could I have been... I was beasted from pillar to post. Ran probably 50 miles that week in s**tty old nike air max... completely f**ked my shins for around 6 months after that... I could hardly walk by the end of the week it was f**king brutal. so i might invest in some of these skin shoes

doesnt work hard enough in the gym Member 1492, 2138 posts SQ 170, BP 145, DL 195510.0 kgs @ 112kgs UnEq | Look into the Tarahumara (which I think is a version of "superhuman") - a Mexican tribe who run 100+ miles for fun. Barefoot (or hurache sandals) seem to be the "secret" My understanding is that barefoot (or minimalist) running is very tough to start off with and requires a breaking in period - check youtube (especially the fit hippy girl called Skye - howtorunbarefoot ... I think) I think I'll get used to the 5 miles cycling a day I've been doing before I start running.

Read McDougall's 'Born to Run' - fantastic book (just inspirational, irrespective of the barefoot propaganda - difficult to read about Zatopek without a taer in your eye). The switch to barefoot is a real shock to the calves - if you push it too far, too soon, you *will* damage something. But what does it tell you about what has happened to our bodies through wearing of conventional shoes? BTW: if you wanted to run, there is a lot of merit (when temperatures permit) to running with naked feet - i.e. not in 'bareffot' shoes. Your soles will be so tender that you will be very limited in how far you can run (which is good), and will also be as light on your feet as you can possibly be. Strange though it might seem, VFFs do provide enough protection to help you to run further than you should at first (esp. if you have one of the models with a thicker sole - e.g. I got the Flow Treks for this winter, and while the thicker sole is great for improved traction, it can encourage too heavy a foot strike - more so than e.g. the KSO. But they do keep feet warm even in deep snow - I trained outside for an hour or so in -15C and 30cm snow in Germany without a problem).
