On my 13th squat session in 3 weeks, or 4th squat session of the week- I've hit the easiest PB of my life, a deep 185kg (semi-raw Tongue ) Squat with loose wraps that flew up like a 100kg squat.

Interesting how the body works, without peaking, and with every indicator point to a s**t session(allergies flared up, sore back/hips/elbow, bad sleep, no motivation), I've actually had one of the best session of my life; whereas I have had times when everything point to a good session then missing all the easy weights.

No matter what, frequent squatting definetly works well, I highly recommend it Grin I will be sqautting every day from now on, even if its just the bar. I have no doubt I will hit 200kg wrap-only squat in no time.

it's nice to have a good day mate... haven't tried squatting every day or even more than once a week... but should it ever come up in one of my competitions I might change that

well done on the 185

Thanks mate. To be honest I have been quite disciplined in recovery work and haven't done much but squat and bench, with 1 speed deadlift session a week. My only assistance was pause squats and hammer curls (rehab/prehab). If I was training many different movements like you strongmen do I won't ever squat daily.

yes, squatting everyday is a really fast way to get strong. I was thinking in going back to daily squatting just a few moments ago. Currently i'm doing 2 times a week, but i feel that i need more frecuency for some reason.

Good to hear about the PR and the daily squatting!

agreed! Its amazing for "greasing the groove" per se. I was coming off a heavy equipped phase 5 weeks ago and was struggling to squat 110*5 and very nearly failed 130. Grin

Better not be greasing your grove in public, its bad enough you told me you deadlift and squat commando

I have squatted commando once. Maybe you should try it too - without that extra bit of weight you probably won't have to dump that raw squat (20kg below your max) on your spotter's knee.

I recently changed to a much higher frequency and volume programme, got to say it feels much better! Will be aiming for a new PR in 3 weeks.

Definitely something I will continue with in one form or another.

how would you set out your squatting plan so that you don't cause burn out

I'd ask the same too, when I squat 5x5 thats me done for at least 3 - 4 days, legs butt etc...

Do you go as heavy as you can, i.e. only just able to finish??

I've been squatting and deadlifting loads lately Neil, this is the thing you do burn out but you just keep doing it! You lift when shattered and every thing hurts and your body adapts. Few days rest and your ready for big squats Happy

I guess others with more way more experience and strength then me can explain better. But what works for me is to lift moderate weights with perfect form/speed. E.g. 60-80% for a few triples everyday and not lifting to limit. On average I probably lifted 50-60 working reps in a week at an *average* intensity of 70-75%, which is definetly not excessive, esp if spreadout over 5 days.
I know its possible to do the same amount of work in even 2-3 days but I feel spreading it out allows to lift the weight much faster (hence more force production) and fresher.

Just my experience and I guess those much stronger then me will have something more useful to say.

I'd go along with Moz on that to some degree - although I am not lifting the weights some of you guys are, I guess it's all relative.

To begin with I was sore and aching, I squat 3 times per week for 5-8 sets a time..I got used to it within 3-4 sessions, doesn't feel bad at all now.

i have always thought if i could train everyday that there would be some element of squats, and deadlift being used. in that i think going as heavy as you can could burn you out quicker, but as stated the body adapts to its work load over time.

then i have thought of alternating deadlift and squats every day in that you could do squats to a heavy single with speed deadlift the next day then speed squats the next and heavy deadlift the day after. but basically this is all you would do with some full body assistance to get the blood flowing through the body.

if your careful and rest appropriately i don't see why you can squat every day as the olympic professionals seem to do this.
