we have a discussion over lifts at our traiing session, ie deadlift in strongman cant be sumo??, so on that note, when we are pressing what is acceptable in strongman?
Can people do split jerks and what not on events like log press? my technique is mainly push press, which in my mind is the most commonly used, may not be the best but its what god gave me lol does anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this?

i think a 'double dip' isnt allowed in the viking press ..just a push press..

sumo may be ok unless forbidden ? not sure

I have seen Koklyaev on numerous occasions use the jerking technique in the log press. When I watched him go against Zydrunas in the log I thought he was mainly on par with Z since he only pressed 10kg less than him. However after I watched it against I realised Zydrunas didn't even push press the weight let alone jerk it. He just stood there and pressed it with just his arms and shoulders. So in fact he is a way stronger presser than Koklyaev.

In short I think that the jerking technique should be banned to make log about pressing strength and less about technique.

Log - you can do split jerk, power jerk, push press...whateva you like

DL - no sumo in strongman normally

Viking - as Boar says, no double dip

ye ive seen the viking press with the double dip being banned, i think its fair enough in that scenario as it should be a single push or strict press, I think its a hard one with the jerk I think mine kicks in as the weight goes up, bit on an obvious thing but thats because i think my pressing is weak so momentum and technique takes over.
I see the statement that some guys say ''hes a strong presser'' when in fact its mainly the technique..................think its hard to call tbh
I just find some people who can't master the techniques may have the same pressing power as someone else just not combining it with the push or jerk, makes them feel less powerful, and be stated as a ''weaker presser''

ye but i have seen some people claim big numbers on it and they use that technique, prob more in training, but when faced with it in a comp i assume they would fall to peices.
I think because there is no rule book its all set at comps, its difficult to instruct people as to what is ok to do and not.

Yh but surely if you can hitch deadlift or get it up by any means, log should be no different. If people can't master jerky poos tough luck?

The rules are the same for everybody people have their preferences i think its mainly called 'overhead' rather than pressing. one man might strict press 120kg the other man only 100kg but the man who can strict 120kg can't jerk and the man who can strict 100kg can jerk 150kg so if the rules allow a jerk by the laws of weight abovehead the man who can jerk 150kg is better overhead. My 20p

edit: on the particular event that allows it.

ye thats the thing people will watch someone close a rep out on deadlift by hitching the s**t out of it and if its locked out its a rep, then with an overhead scenario a double dip isnt allowed in some cases, its a mine field lol, suppose thats why i love the sport really as it has a cross over from all fields of sport and lifting, so all can have a go and play to individual strengths.
