I was cutting the hedge at my in-laws. I'd finished it and just had a tricky bit to do at the top. The ladder was at a precarious angle and my father-in-law was on the bottom. He decided to move and the ladder collapsed. He then kindly told me where I was going wrong with ladder positioningGrin
I'm going to be trying some deadlifts later, but I'm still sore as f**k this morningUnhappy


I'd say the mistake came at an earlier stage than that, when you agreed to help them, or even by talking to them. I think there's a moral lesson in the experience for you.

How do you manage to refuse to talk to the in laws? You can be proud Cliff, you are definitely wearing the trousers in your house. I wish I wereUnhappy
As far as the rib goes, it is still sore. I deadlifted a solid 170 yesterday regardless, which is not too shabby for me, especially a bit a broken.

How does sunday the 19th december grab you as Dday

max squat and max bench. Gives us plenty of time to train and throwing bench in as well will make it more interesting. I shall be gunning for a 400lb squat and a 120k bench ,what say you?

Just read this one. Right you are. I'd be happy with a 160 squat and a 110 bench. However, given I am the king of the bench, I'll get at least 120.5 just to show who is bossWink

Excellent ,we should be pretty close with the combined totals if previous bests are anything to go on,you've got 15k on my best bench and from memory Ive got 10k on you in the squat(I might be making that up apologies if you've squatted more).I shall expect more frequent updates so i can keep an eye on you and take the piss!

I might throw it open to the general forum as an online max out day like we used to do back in the early days of sugden!

Sounds good Ed. Don't know if my bests mean much at the minute. Off the top of my head, I think I've done something like 162-164 squat and 130 bench which isn't far off 300. Unfortunately, if I did this tomorrow, I'd probably do about 135/90 which is a long way offUnhappy

Might be nice to chuck it out to the forum for those who are around 250-300 for squat/bench.

Any plans as to how to attack it? I think I'll just go and squat/bench 3 times a week and see where it takes me.

similar plan to mine mate ,I'm going to hammer the volume squat ,3 times a week for 3 sets of 8 to start,I'll probably only bench once a week though as my shoulders dont like it.I'll hit the volume for 5 weeks whilst I'm losing weight then up to 5's twice a week once I'm ready to start building back up,same with bench 8's first then up to 5's then 3's than boom pb time!Happy

Sounds like a plan. I've been doing some stupidly high rep sets at the minute for squat. I did 60 kilos for 50 on Saturday and my legs are f**king sore. Next stop is 70 kilos for 50. I'm going to keep doing these and mix it up with some singles and maybe 5s.
Bench depends on the the shoulders same as you. I'll play it by ear.

Doesn't help me lift any heavier though! I'd love to bang out 100kilos for 50 one day though for personal satisfaction.

No problems for the updates. I'll let you know as the total (hopefully) creeps up. I'm off to squat and bench in a minute and the aim is to do a few sets with 85/110. I'm thinking of working up in ladders (do a single, a double and a triple). when I can get 3, I'll add some weight.
As for the lunacy, you know it makes senseGrin Seriously, I don't think I'm ever going to be squatting 300, but I reckon I could do 100 for 50 with my chicken legs.

It's simple. I hide. True story: a few years ago, I spent two days in my top lounge because Mrs. T.'s sister was down for Xmas. I only came out for toilet visits, lightning fridge raids, and after they had gone to bed. Unfortunately, I got trapped in the shower room because they had gone out and came back unexpectedly soon. I spent two hours in there waiting for them to go back downstairs do that I could escape. It's tough, but you have to make sacrifices to stick to your principles.

That's impressive. I can't do 50 reps on anything with any amount of weight.

Cliff, you are my hero. Waiting for 2 hours to come out of the bathroom is just awesome stuff.Grin

In my quest to ground Ed into dust and show him just what lanky really means, I did some benching and squatting today.

Bench 85/1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3
squat 110/1,2,3,1,2,3,1,2,3

Ed, you must be quaking in your bootsHappy It is frightening how much strength I've mlost on the bench. 85 kilos felt heavy. I would have struggled to get a rep with 100 today. Still, as a great philosopher once said:
