Bloody hell, Felix's Squat and Bench were ridiculous, much more there surely. Look forward to seeing when he competes again. I reckon 1000kg+ Is there in the near future.... I am however a t**t and don't know too much about anything, what do you guys reckon?

i guess the trouble is that training with equipment takes time - and so does strongman event training!

sadly, there are only so many hours in a day...

He didnt have a clue what to expect yesterday, and as mentioned was relieved when Alan told him his lifts...
He has been a member since the beginning of the year this was the only comp that didnt clash with "Strongman" .
For Felix Its not what you lift but the company your in when lifting....

And that's one of the reasons we love him Happy. And yes, it's just great to have a coach to do your thinking for you!

I know looking at the video it looks like we gave Mark ridiculously low attempts, but bear in mind that it was his first powerlifting comp! I was still cueing him to wait for commands as he was getting under the bar, and it's only two or three weeks ago that we were working on keeping his head still on the bench. If his third lifts look novice-easy, it's because - as a bencher and squatter in competitive terms - he's a novice!

As to everything else, he's been a member in good standing all year, GBPF have known he intended to lift in comps this year since iirc January, and he wasn't worried about pissing in a cup anytime last time we talked about it.

He's a great lifter and a genuinely good guy. I'm looking forward to him taking the world deadlift record officially soon - and I don't just mean the masters one.

And, yes, Jake was tremendous!

marks awsome deadlift has been 400/405 for a while (obviously thats an amazing lift) but what can be done to start adding kilos and get it to 409..410 ...or is that in the locker right now ?

Looking at the vids and at how easy every lift was I'd say that Felix is capable of 1000kg+ total if he pushed himself(aswell as wore and mastered a shirt). Cool Was very impressive! Cool

He kept the straps up in between attempts. It's a powerlifting suit. Tell him his suits not tight enough, and tell him I said so.

Mark seems to be able to do 400 on request without too much trouble, the other week he came down to Adlington after a full day plastering, it was freezing cold, and from touching his first weight (which was 140) he pulled 400k in 5 jumps and in less than 15 minutes. Felix is also a platform lifter and i genuinely think he could pull 410 without too much trouble right now in any comp he chooses.

I don't blame him. I disagree with the others here, I warmed up alongside Mark on the day and the suit looked plenty tight enough. I also could leave my straps up between lifts if I wanted to. I only remove them to wrap my knees, as Mark was having his knee wrapped by Phil he had no need to.
The problem with Marks straps is that owing to the size of his upper arms and shoulders it is very difficult to get them over and onto his traps, once there however they are not that tight, if they were tighter and therefore shorter, he would never get them on.
The concensus among the smaller lifter tends to be that tightness is everything, but for the larger gentleman I consider that comfort is also very much a factor. If he is comfortable with it and if it does add to his squat ability I would leave well alone. It's him who is wearing it after all, I would rather him approach the bar confident and happy rather than with a niggling "phuck me this is tight" thought at the back of his mind and with the "I know I can get depth in this" factor diminished.
I would be interested to know the age of the suit and the amount of service it has seen. They don't last forever and if it is old and has been active it may be worth considering a new one so he can be breaking that in to a point he is comfortable with so he has a replacement ready when the old one finally gives up the ghost

I hadn't realised how slim Mark was! His squat vid reminded me a bit of a slightly wider-stanced Sam Watt and Brian Reynolds and not just cos he is black and made the bar whip about!

After hearing such glowing reports of what a nice chap he is, I am looking forward to meeting the bloke. And I will happily explain to him that his suit is too loose.
