I'll make sure to say hello if you're there!

I know I said I was going to stop making posts about the odd bits of cardio I'm now doing, but I've decided to go back on that and continue making them. They may be very boring, but it helps me keep track of where I'm at and what I've done!

30 minutes on a cross trainer.

Today was my final proper deadlift session before I compete again, so I was hoping to make it good one. It most certainly was as well!

Started off with some strict presses which all felt quite good.

Press:
Bar x 10
30kg x 6
40kg x 3
47.5kg x 3, 3, 3, 2 Failed attempt at getting a third rep on the fourth set so left it at that.
40kg x 6

Deadlift:
70kg x 8
110kg x 4
130kg x 2
150kg x 1
155kg x 2, 2, 1

The plan for today was to do one double or triple with 155kg. After I did the first double I thought there was more there though, so I carried on. The single at the end could have been a double, but a couple of guys walking across the gym decided that right in front of me was a good place to stop and chat about when they'd been in prison. Completely put me off and lost all focus, so I left it there. Very happy with the two doubles though. Things are looking quite good for the 29th now.

Low Pulley Row:
'98kg' x 3 x 5

Job done.

I was absolutely shattered after this, deadlifts really took it out of me.

Today was my last proper session in the gym before next Sunday's competition, it was a bit of strange one really. Hard in some respects, very easy in others, but overall I quite enjoyed it!

Squat:
Bar x 15
60kg x 5
70kg x 4
85kg x 3
100kg x 2
110kg x 1
120kg x 1
125kg x 1 Planned opener, easy peasy.
130kg x 1
135kg x 1 Planned second squat, not easy, but not overly hard.
Practised walkouts with 145kg a few times, I'm still a bit wobbly and shuffly normally which isn't great, managed to walkout strongly when I focussed more on what I was doing though.
100kg x 8 Doing more than 5 reps should be illegal, horrible last couple of reps!

Bench press:
Bar x 15
40kg x 10
50kg x 8, 8, 8

Kept bench press very light today, even by my standards, and focussed on technique and setup. Feeling confident about my setup now which makes a change as normally I feel like my bench is horrendous technically, as well as being weak in general!

Dips:
BW x 8, 8, 8

Done.

Sorry Luke, my mistake, I thought you were doing the GBPF East Midlands. You must be doing the BDFPA North Midlands?

Oh right, all makes sense now!

Yeah, I'm having my first go at a BDFPA competition, next GBPF comp will probably be North Midlands Unequipped in the summer. Plenty of time to prepare!

I'll see you there, that will probably be my next one unless the South Yorkshire happens before it like this year.

Didn't think of that, I'll probably be doing that too. Really enjoyed the South Yorkshire comp I did last month!

I trained at Marc's gym in Horncastle again this evening. I got some training hints and tips again, so hopefully training there is going to help me improve!

Squat:
Bar x 10
65kg x 5
85kg x 4
105kg x 3
115kg x 2
125kg x 1

Apparently I need to be careful about depth as I'm only just hitting a depth that would pass in competition, really need to concentrate on getting as deep as possible when squatting.

Bench press:
Bar x 10
45kg x 5
50kg x 4
55kg x 3
60kg x 2
65kg x 1

Technique on bench press is a bit dodgy apparently. Got told I take the bar from the spotter too early and end up pulling it over into position myself. Another little something to work on. I found it quite encouraging that all the tips I was being given were only little things, at least I'm not doing anything massively wrong!

Finished off with some speed deadlifts.

65kg x 8
90kg x 2, 2
65kg x 3, 3, 3, 3

Deadlift speed is very poor. I really need to work on this as grinding everything up is holding me back.

your deadlift speeds going to improve once i get you doing clean pulls and powerclean, thats why marc suggested i teach you them, i think they really helped my deadlift. im looking forward to seeing how you do at the comp.

I thought I'd post a little final update before Sunday's competition. Its more for myself to keep track of how things have gone in the run up to competing this time around, but feel free to comment or wish me luck if you please!

Squat:
As with the run up to my last competition squats have been feeling marvellous in training. My opener (125kg) that seemed a million miles away only a few months back, is now piss easy and I'm very confident about how my squat will go on Sunday.

Bench press:
Always my weakest of the three lifts, its miles behind the other two! However, recently I've tried to concentrate on improving my setup and it seems to have helped. I was even complimented on my setup for once the other day! Hopefully I'll get a comp PB on Sunday for bench, its feeling better than it has before, so fingers crossed I'll lift more than I have previously. I'll be opening at 65kg which is my current comp PB.

Deadlift:
My deadlift has been stuck at 160kg for ages now which has been frustrating me quite a bit. In the lead up to competing though I have managed doubles with 155kg and triples with 150kg. Now after a few pointers, mainly regarding me needing to focus more on speed than just grinding everything up, I feel I'm in a good position to move past 160kg. Hopefully it'll happen on Sunday, if it doesn't its no big deal really, but its got to happen soon, I can feel it! I'll be opening with 150kg.

Weight:
As with the last time I competed weight has been a bit of an issue for me. After struggling to make weight sapped my strength last time I've been rather worried about the same thing happening again. I think with a bit of luck I should be alright though, I weighed 67.9kg on Saturday, but as that was my birthday a few birthday drinks and a slice or two of cake bumped my weight back up a bit. Very few carbs and lots of water since then and I'm now around 68kg again. So lots more water and continue with no carbs, maybe some light cardio and I should be fine for Sunday.

I competed again today in the North Midlands BDFPA Divisional. Here's a little write up!

My worries about making weight were a little unnecessary it seems, I weighed in at 65.7kg with no need to sweat any weight out.

Squat:
125kg- Easy opener, as it should be.
135kg Comp PB- Felt harder than I was expecting, but again I got it.
145kg Fail- I managed to get this up, but failed on depth. Having seen a video of the lift afterwards it wasn't even close to being in, rather disappointed about that!

To qualify for the BDFPA Single Lift Squat I needed to get 132.5kg, which I managed.

Bench press:
65kg- Same as the squat, my opener flew up.
70kg Comp PB- This also went up well, it actually felt alot easier than I was expecting.
75kg Fail- I went into this feeling really confident after the 70kg felt good. I lowered the bar way too fast though and it wasn't really controlled which threw me off completely. I got it just off my chest, but it wasn't going any further.

Deadlift:
150kg- Yet again, a very comfortable opener.
160kg- This felt alot better than it has previously when I've pulled it. That filled me with confidence.
170kg Comp and overall PB- Very, very pleased with this. I've never pulled anything over 160kg before, but managed 170kg quite comfortably today.

I needed 155kg I think to qualify for the Single Lift Deadlift, so also qualified for that.

All this meant I ended up with a total of 375kg, which is exactly what I needed to qualify for the BDFPA British Powerlifting Championships. I know the BDFPA isn't seen in the best light by alot of people, but its still the first time I've qualified for a British so I'm delighted. Also, the fact I've only been doing any sort of training since June I feel is quite an achievement. Need to change my goals now that I've achieved the goal of qualifying for a British Championship!

I got the girlfriend to video every lift I did today, but because my camera is a bit tempremental all apart from my 135kg squat and 170kg deadlift videos have stopped working.

At least the two lifts I'm most pleased about have carried on working!

Knees cave in as always on the squat, that is getting a bit annoying, I need to work on that!

Pleased with the deadlift. Not brilliant form, but I managed it so nevermind!

i think the deadlift looks fine, it was a 10k PB!! its not going to be perfect, but really theres was no hitch, it was a smooth deadlift at a max weight, looked great from where i was
