I would happily pay 40notes a year for that to be implemented in strongman

And would you be just as happy to pay £80 the year after for exactly the same thing ?

in some ways I agree but in others not. it seems to me that whenever governing bodies get set up in strength sports with funds and budgets etc. it usually leads to infighting and divisions. of course money is useful to any sport but I quite like the fact that 90% of people involved in strongman in this country just do it for the love of the sport.

Why has it doubled? The BWLA unattached membership for this year was £35, exactly the same as the GBPF membership. I don't suppose it will be very different from the GBPF fee next year either.

as Steve has pointed out it hasn't doubled in a year

miost things increase in price on a yearly basis, train fares, council tax etc so why not membership fees?

If you're not happy with the way things are run you could always offer your services Pete?

I don't have much time to devote to helping run the GBPF, so I am not going to moan too much about how it's going so far. I hope to attend the AGM though!

You're not suggesting some form of bouleversement are you. If you want me to run anything expect it to die with the hour. I couldn't organize the papers in a chip shop.

Goat Boy would never forgive me. He has obligations in Oldham, and he, unlike me, does not shirk his responsibilities

Just to give you all an idea for how and why the memberships subs are what they are..........

For a long time the BWLA membership was at £20 or so and didn’t change for a long time. The reason for that was very simply that BWLA received a large amount of funding from UK Sport, of which a small amount was given to Powerlifting.

Added to the fact that Leaders and Instructors courses were being run and BWLA were perfectly happy to leave the membership fee’s as they were. Only when BWLA started to have financial problems did it rise to £23 and at the same time Powerlifting got hardly anything at all.

For us we had to set the membership fee at a reasonable level and also protect the Interests of the other Home Countries, Wales, Scotland, and N.Ireland. The Fee was set at £35.00 and of that we only received £10 from the other Home Countries.

Because they had far fewer numbers than England we needed to help them to be financially capable of running their own Associations. On the face of it ,it seems unfair, but the GBPF at the time we were formed couldn’t take the full amount and then run their National Competitions as we would have been obliged to do. Overall Scotland made well over £2000 , Wales and N. Ireland much less but at least they had some income.

So overall if you take the income we have received we actually only got in around £20 per member. The Insurance we have paid for and due to the increased membership will total well over £8200.

We have 730 members and basic maths will show you that after paying the Insurance and deducting this from £20 we in effect actually have left £8.76 per member.

From this figure you need to take off all the squad expenses, the Drug Test Fee’s of £2500, the postage, cost for the IT Rob does which is really too cheap, all the bank charges we incur for cheques and payments we get in and out, and you can see

We are financially stable due to the fact that we had some donations, and also due to the fact we made pure profit from the British Seniors of over £1400.

The 2 Bench Press events made us overall about £700 and the Juniors about £150. The Masters held by you in the first year made a small loss, and next year you will get help to make sure you don’t suffer again. I spoke at great length to Bryn about this and we will make sure you get more help especially with the costs and setting up. I will push my sponsors to see if we can get some more money from them, but I and everyone else were really proud of the event you put on.

Next year the membership fee is set at £40 with £10 of that going to each home country. This stops the complaints from England that they were subsidising the other countries, although my own opinion is that overall Powerlifting benefited in those countries.

There are also other items we have to pay out including Affiliation to the IPF and EPF etc
