Second and third sets both felt a lot better and I got to HR in a couple of minutes. Overall distance pb by 25m despite the first 8 minutes getting me the shortest distance for over a month.

I've been doing a little reading around today and I've got a plan for tomorrows warm up, I'm going to throw some short spells (10 strokes) of near max work in there and go for longer, see how that goes. It's only a problem when I'm tired going into a session, that's reasonably often at the moment though. Sparrow said: That is a very tasty session! How hard was the first rep? Cheers! I try to get up to 149 HR pretty quick, so the first 3 - 4 minutes are hard work, I'm usually 1:40ish pace until I hit it. After that I'm still having to work, but it's not too hard.

The first 6 min set certainly felt a lot better and I managed to get my HR up easier than on Tuesday. Guess I need a couple more AT sessions like this before I can rejoice but it's looking good! Decent overall session as well, 16m up on my best.

The way I see it if I'm doing a UT1 session then the object isn't to cover the most distance, or go at the best pace, the whole point is to have my heart working at a certain rate. So I try to hit that rate as soon as I can, within reason

I think that as any max effort row should mostly be at a set pace then it would be a good idea to do them at some point in the cycle. This work is new to me though, I still have very little experience with it. 10 more weeks and I'll finish this program, but until then I'm going to just stick with the HR work.
