got a 15 year old lad training with my son. theyve been training once a week for just over a year and he can pull 110kg x 5 with a bit more in the tank and squat an easy 65kg x 7. hes 67.5kg bw. is this a good standard? he seems pretty strong to me for his age but I dont have much perspective on what standards are for younger lifters.

Yeah definitely a good standard, especially if he doesn't weigh much

Just seen his bodyweight. Yeah strong for sure!

I managed a paltry 115kg first time i ever deadlifted at about 80kg bw and in my 30s.

So I’d say he’s doing pretty good for such a young lad at a much lower bw.

Lifting at all at that age is a win.
His numbers are nothing crazy (we have a few young teens at our place) but they're pretty good!

My feeling was "decent, but not exceptional", which tallies with what Luke said.

Good to hear that he's not just doing bench and curls!

out of interest what levels/ages have you got training at your place?

be interested to see what is possible as, to be fair, they are pretty half arsed about training. I think with some focus and targets he has the potential to increase those numbers a lot. he certainly seems to gain strength at a much faster rate than the kids he train with.

We have a 65kg 14 year old girl who can squat 90kg, deadlift 130 and bench 65. She's probably the best one. She's a very good all round athlete though who's done some form of training for a while (plays football and does BJJ and other things)

We have another 16 year old girl who's pulling 120kg, doing 180kg on yoke and has been training less than 6 months. She's a bit of a phenom on moving events though!

Have a 15 year old boy who's pulling 120 at sub 60kg bw with less than 6 months of training.

These are the best ones though, also quite a few who are weaker than your sons friend.

yeah. I help them with technique and write their routines. they train (sporadically sometimes) once a week and just do deads and squats.

its hard tracking their strength levels though - the little bas***ds get stronger without even trying at that age!

thats crazy! does she just lift as strength training for other sports or is strength her focus?

The former. She does want to do a powerlifting competition at some point but the main reason she's doing it is to get generally stronger for the other sports. I think she plays football for Wigan and has had trials at some big clubs so she's pretty good! Just a bit of a freak really.

had them max out for the first time today and the lad did a 130 dead and 90 squat. both beltless.
