Specifically log yoke and stones? Will have only oly bar and rack to work with. Have some thick rubber plates that could be taped together as a makeshift stone or is that pointless?

in my opinion, you cant really prepare yourself technically for those events with conventional equipment.

Get a piece of wood and cut it 50cm long and have it lathed 50mm thick. This will allow you to make a poor man's loadable stone with plates.

This is also probably the last time in my life I wore a vest, so quit taking the piss.

That's a very poor stone substitute in my opinion.

Sell the rack, barbell and plates then use the money to go to a local gym, they start at around £10 a month. You will then have a lot more equipment to work with.

Genius. Give up all the benefits of a home gym and be forced to deal with idiots just to access some kit that is only needed a couple of months out of the year.

The only top athletes who train in home gyms have a s**t ton more equipment to work with than a barbell and a rack. Everybody uses more than that year round.

And how many of them started with more than that?

Perhaps more relevantly, not everyone (by which i mean almost no one) is training to be a 'top athlete'. Most just want to have fun and make progress. A home gym, even a small one, allows for this without taking too much time out from other pursuits/responsibilities.

Nope the latter works! If you have the funds would be worth investing in a sandbag imo. You can load it over the barbell in the rack.

Where do you live. Both luke and myself have fully equipped strongman gyms. Where you can pay to train in the northwest. I know of at least 1 other. I’m sure there won’t be one that far away where you can pay around £5 to use all the stuff you need. When I started. I had to drive to osg Manchester, caged steel Bradford, or SAS in Lancaster. 20-50miles away. But what you’ll learn for the time will be worth the effort.

I used to do a 3 hour round bus trip to train at SAS on Sundays. Those were the days.

You have to train how you play, I dont think you can really prep for strongman comp with an oly bar and rack, I'd say your best bet is to join a gym that has that kit, or make it yourself, hope you find a solution good luck Happy

In my (somewhat distant) experience, you don't need a great deal of experience to make rapid technical progress withe those events. Moreover, unless you are already very, very strong, you will see more long term benefit from continuing to focus on getting bigger and stronger.

If you don't have a specific competition in mind, a road trip to train events every few weeks is a good way forward.

As has been mentioned already, sandbags are helpful. They're cheap and accessible, and don't rip your skin off.

If you're doing stones in a competition I'd also remember that some decent tacky is the most significant investment you can make.
