no, I don't pay any attention to it , I think somewhere around 170 is average for me , in the past I have heard 180 is more optimum

the garmin just tells me what the cadence is , technology (in the vivoactive) if I want to do the same with my 910 , I need a foot pod.

had my first issue with the kickr today:

1.during a race, I was in a pack ....then suddenly my watts went up and up ...300...400..500...600

if I had wanted to I think I could have gone and won the race as I was hitting 8w/kg+

so I stopped and did a spindown

THEN...

2.towards the end of my replacement ride , again , I was with a pack and they suddenly dropped me and I just couldn't get my watts up ...low 100's ..... just grinding away...I stopped as I was on the last km of my session anyway

so, 2 problems, the opposite of each other !!

I will do a firmware update and another spindown , we shall see.

Trainerroad or Zwift? Decision time as Trainerroad is up for renewal.

I am going with zwift , I enjoy the races too much , I just couldn't put that much effort into TR.

I have decided just to go with enjoying racing rather than out n out trying to improve my FTP - I have sacked off aiming for a 6 hour ironman cycle , my recent bout of man-flu made me realise it can all disappear with just 2 weeks illness ,so I'm gonna see what happens

zwift awarded me 272 FTP after that horrible climb up the other side of the watopia mountain

pity you cant transfer TR - I am paid up until probably aug/sept and I cant see myself using it again

Brilliant FTP result

I'm siding with Zwift although for different reasons - I quite like the structured, planned workout of TR. I just prefer the way Zwift implements the control of the trainer with a bit more flexibility over and under your target. It may well e down to my turbo. It feels great on Zwift, but much less smooth on TR - I killed a trainer tyre a couple of weeks ago when TR said go and the turbo locked up!

Hope you're fully recovered - ultimately consistency and not missing training is probably the most important thing and whatever allows you to achieve that is the best choice (just don't over do the races!)

Current target for me swim in the sea every day in December! Six down, 25 to go!

zwift is the winner !

I'm waiting for the running version

not much chance of me doing any swimming, although there is no reason why not , other than my moobs.

my kickr malfunctioned due to being kept in the cold - the guy at wahoo had the results of all my spindown calibrations ..... he knew too much !! I felt violated.

I have to carry the thing 25 yards out to the shed now to set it up everytime !

as for my FTP , I was just tricked in putting in extra effort - I didn't know where the top of the mountain was !! ... this is the last corner ..... no THIS is the last bit .....oh ...just one last really steep bit

garmn vectors are less than £600 on canyons 12 days of Christmas deal. 24 hours only.

I can't afford them, but I may just have to find a way.

£548.95 inc vat plus £6.99P&P - Am I reading that correctly? Sounds too good to be true if it wasn't a proper company. Have you any experience with them or know anyone who has?

No, but they are a very reputable company. The only issues I've ever seen were when they couldn't fulfill orders in time, but that was due to manufacturing of their own products and I think they've rectified that.

Buy me a pair and I'll provide some feedback for you Wink

What Turbo Trainer are you using? Is it a 'smart' trainer?

I'm set up on TR using Virtual Power and it seems to work quite well. I'm tempted to try Zwift but reckoned a smart trainer would be better for getting the full effect!

when I was on trainer road I used a cycle ops fluid 2 and it was accurate and consistent , I think it would work well enough on zwift to enjoy the experience , but now I have a smart trainer (kickr) and its superb

its worth giving zwift a go , like you say , virtual power is reasonably accurate (my virtual FTP was within 10 points of my FTP on a kickr) its the hills you wont get the full effect on , but I find it much better for 'making' me put in top effort

Ok, perfect. Think I'll maybe give zwift a go 'virtually' to begin with. Some of those kickr turbos are a grand, which is more than my bike cost. Super bits of kit though!

Does the Kickr work OK with the 11 speed Ultegra? I've seen quite a few people saying they have problems. (Not as many as with the Neo)

I think I got a choice of 10 or 11 speed when I got the kickr, I chose the 11 , I don't have any problems although I am not one for running up and down the gears
