World bench press comp review.
Ok for those of you who didn't know I didn't have a great buildup to this comp for the most part, I was struggling with injury and lack of form after the British and was generally down in mood and threatening to retire. I had a run out at the north west team event a few days after benching 205 and had difficulties there. Following that I decided to up the training volume and a couple of weeks after that I was having pec issues and I was really down at that point so I decided to cut the training down and the turning point was on the 21st march when I started to feel my pec twinge when doing 110 and was ready to pull out of the comp at that point but I decided to one more set and that felt better, then another and another until I had hit 155x1; from that point things started to fly, I hit a pb the week after. After this I had planned 2 sessions in the shirt, I hit 210 3 weeks out and hit 220 a week out, so I was near to my best.
For this years world championships i moved up to 93kg because I was having to cut so much weight to make weight at 83kg, but I struggled to really put the weight on and from 3 weeks in I was eating lots of junk food and come the day of the comp i weighed in at 88.4kg with two breakfasts in me. The plus side was that if I had stayed at 83kg I would have had to be weighed in at 7am. which would mean being at kit check for 6.30am. So following the weigh in I went back to the chalet to rest up and low and behold by the time I set out to the comp 2 inches of snow had fallen, bear in mind it was sunny when I went to the weigh in; it felt very surreal walking to the venue in a blizzard. Come the warm up I felt great with the raw warm ups for the first time ever, looking at the other lifters openers the guy closest to me had put in 215 for his opener I put in 205. I warmed up with the other lifter and he was clearly stronger so I thought I would need something like 225-230 to beat him. My shirted warm ups were a wee bit below par but I knew I would be ok once I got the opener in. I opened on 205 and it was ok, not overly fast, the other guy got his 215 then moved to 220. My second was 215 and it was a bit better than the 205 I think, the dane missed his 220. Marc (the coach) called for 220 for a third so that the Dane would have to go higher as he was heavier. I got 220 reasonably comfortably for a comp pb, that meant that the Dane couldn't beat me unless he went heavier which he didn't. This left me in 11th place in the strongest ever 93kg weight class and the most competitive class (9 lifters over 275 and 4 over 300kg). All in all a fairly good day and at least it kept up the run of not missing a lift for the last 4 internationals I have done.
The standard again was much improved, world records set in most classes and many lifters improving by 20-30kg. I keep improving too, but seemingly making no progress on reducing the gap.
The trip was a good trip but for some reason I felt a bit subdued on the day, whereas the day before I was getting fired up just watching the comp.
My lifts are on youtube.

Well done Aaron. Moving up a weight class and still being in spitting distance of top 10 is impressive mate!!

Can't get much better than a comp PB either!!

Brilliant result Aaron. Don't fear imperfect build ups. As bad as it is for you remember that everyone else is in the same boat and no doubt struggling with the same issues.

You got your laser corrected eyes on 500 now then?

At the moment I am focused on having a break doing some running and get the weight a bit down as I am way too fat and am too light compared to the rest of the 93s, so it would probably be better to go back down.

Aaron do you do the parkruns? Have you? Would you consider it? What about sportiffes? There's loads in the UK on pretty much a weekly basis. Tough mudder? Ski sports at the chillfactore or Rossendale?

What about SUP boarding? By the time summer comes round I'll be a SUP boarder and I think you could be too. Lot of waterways near us and BCU membership isn't that dear so you're legit for most of them. Fancy it?

Oh yea I would do parkruns if they didn't clash with the golf comps i do on saturdays. I did toy with the idea of making a trip to warrington to do the one you do.
I wanted to a 5k run last night but it started thundering.
Ive never done ski sports and dont know what sportiffe, I would try the SUP thing.
