I'm after some form of boards for benching. Any opinions on which is better?

Ive used repboards - they are decent - strap to your chest so no assistance needed

Bit's of wood are hard to use when you're training solo (or even with only one other person).

I'm making the assumption that Mark wants some boards that he can use that don't require another person to hold them in place.....

I've got some repboards (haven't you actually used them at mine?) and they are well made, easy to use and look like they are going to last.

I've not used the Bench Blokz, but they look ok as well - slightly less adjustment (no one board) but no need to strap anything to your chest.

I think I would go for the repboards to be honest.

Is there a big price difference?

Boards under your t-shirt

Boards stuck on with bands! Or a railway sleeper. Stuck on with bands!

That may well be fine for some people, but for folk like me that get an extreme arch after an extreme setup, it's just not going to stay in place (I've tried).

Also, when handling weights around 35-40kg over my normal bench I don't want to be worrying about my 'boards' slipping / moving - It's not something worth risking to my mind.

However, if you just lie down and press, then a phone book under a t-shirt may work just fine

If you had such a big arch, wouldn't a board be pointless? Unless you're using 1,2 or 3 boards. What is your ROM? Vids of you benching?

For solo 2-board work, I use a rigid foam yoga-brick held on with a physio band. Total cost about £4. Only use solo when I have well setup spotter rails though.

Wouldn't give you any variability, but work for an easy 2 board.

What difference does my ROM make in regard to using boards?

If my ROM is 6" or 18", using boards will still allow me to overload certain portions of the lift in the same way.

Should a long armed deadlift freak not do block pulls because they have a shorter ROM?

As a side note, I had no intentions of arguing for or against using repboards / bench blockz / sleepers / plywood / argos catalogs / dildo's as boards for benching.

Mark asked a question about repboards / bench blockz and I responded with my view.

As with just about everything lifting related, you can find an alternative to a specialised bit of kit.

There are just pro's and cons that you need to weigh up and then decide for yourself e.g. Price, convenience of use, effectiveness, adjustability, safety etc, etc, etc...
