Nice easy session today. Must have got set up wrong for first set of bench as my shoulder really didnt like it (hence re-racking after 1 rep), but after that everything else felt fine, quite happy to hit a 150 completely raw after several build up sets.

Had a rough couple of days (car troubles) and appear to have picked up a few niggles, so had to keep it light tonight.
Squats were comfortable, though still using the ed hall grip.
Strict press was horrible, both my shoulder and right wrist are in a bad way and didnt enjoy it at all. I wont be pressing again until i compete next week.
Rows were easy, somehow they seem to have fallen out of my routine lately, so i need to remedy that.

Deadlifts tomorrow, and thats quite possibly it for the week, maybe some light squats on friday to loosen off and stretch.

Also tried to do bent over laterals and rear delt flyes, but right shoulder wasnt having it.

Weekend of eating and foam rolling, then contest is on Monday. A couple of events could be problematic if my shoulder is playing up, but 3 out of the 5 should suit me so can hopefully still get a decent result.

event 1 - 130 log for reps

Was a bit nervous about this one with the way my shoulders been the past few weeks, especially given that it was on a less than ideal surface. But the narrow handles on the log suited me. Managed 1 rep quite easily, took a breather, then cleaned the log for 2nd, but couldnt find my balance. Luckily a lot of other guys found the log hard to press, so 1 rep was good enough for joint 3rd.

event 2 - front handle car deadlift

Really horrid piece of kit, the bar just didnt come close to the line a standard barbell would follow. Probably a little over 300kg in the hands, managed 3 reps, which was again joint 3rd i believe.

event 3 - 140 farmers DaT at 15m

Quite a thick handle which had a lot of the guys nervous, but i was confident in my grip. Made the first 15 easily, quick pick up and set off again, lost my footing about 5m from the line, so had to pick up again. Unfortunately i also misjudged my distance over the line and the final inch of one of the handles didnt cross so i had to lift that one again which cost me a couple of seconds and relegated me to 3rd place, again.

event 4 - keg toss

Very nervous about how my shoulder would handle this and quite simply the answer was it couldnt. Tried a couple of times but as i couldnt get the shoulder to full extension i was having to release the kegs early and this just went straight up instead of backwards. Didnt get a single keg over and dropped a lot of points, 6th overall after this event.

event 5 - 125 keg loading

Having lost so many points in keg toss i knew at this point i couldnt realisticly qualify, but was determined to get them all up and prove to myself it was only the shoulder injury that had cost me. Loaded all 3 kegs without any drops and in good time, 2nd or 3rd on this event.

Overall 6th, just short of 5th place.


While a bit disappointed with the result i was happy enough with my performance. Beat some strong guys in keg loading and farmers, and if id only managed to get 1 keg id have took 5th place overall.


Next comp is Trawden show in 11 weeks. Plan is to get bodyweight up to 21st and really train the specific events. Havent yet seen a competitor list, but i aim to be chasing a top 3 spot.

Had to drastically reduce the volume today, between competing monday, training yesterday and a whole host of errands i had to run today i was seriously drained by the time i hit the gym.
Back to work and my usual routine tomorrow, so expecting to have training back on track by the weekend.

Been re evaluating my training on the basis of the events in my next comp, so may be changing a couple of things next week to ensure i come in at my best in august.

Managed a little more volume today, axle deads were harder than i would like, but given my hands are still rather torn from monday it wasnt a big surprise.
Pleased i opted for a lighter weight on the first set of stiff leg pulls, lower back was shot by the end, not certain i would have managed 5 sets of 5 at 200.

Looks like squats and upper back work tomorrow, as well as an event or 2.

Not a bad session today.
Tried olympic grip on front squat, was able to rack it, but almost lost it in the hole, so strapped up for rest of the sets, all of which were quite comfortable, even added a 3s pause on the final rep.
Paused squats were a little uncomfortable on my very sore lower back, but much better than they were on Wednesday.
Final set of bw hangs was a bugger, got my grip all wrong so was always fighting a losing battle to make it to the 30s target.
Events were rained off, but still happy enough with what i got done.

Bench and arms on the card for tomorrow, may even throw in some chest work, because #Gainz.

And done, 60 mins of pumping perfection. Incline press was tricky at first, but after bringing my grip in slightly they got much better, so upped the weight a little for the final 2 sets.

Everything was done kit free tonight for a change, with the only exception being that i tried out some figure 8 straps on the sumo pulls.
Grip felt great on the axle, almost pushed on for a pb, but the plan is reps for a while so resisted.
Farmers and tyre both felt solid, will either add in extra flips, or maybe a 3rd event to this medley and use it as my standard conditioning drill.
Sumo was a piece of cake, though given the weight thats hardly surprising. Its just in because my lower back is a bit messed up at the minute so conventional pulls are very uncomfortable. Will drastically up the weight next week, probably 200 for 5 x 5.

Another short and sweet session tonight. Incline felt good, bench a little off, had to use a different bar and the rings werent where they should be so took a few sets to find the right grip width.
Incline db was easy, but despite my best efforts i couldnt actually feel the chest working. It appears somewhere in the past year or so ive lost the whole mind muscle connection i had back in my leaner days.
