rian1987 | Squats and deadlifts in the same session | 12-08-2014 @ 23:02
not stating facts. Member 3100, 502 posts | Recently I've done squats before deadlifts and I've been feeling a lot stronger and looser for the deadlifts than just doing deadlifts alone. I'm wondering if anyone else does this and what the long term gains have been like.

Cut toe in half = bad day. Member 4359, 3581 posts SQ 270, BP 140, DL 310720.0 kgs @ 137kgs UnEq | Works well. Also works fine the other way around. Just prioritise the weaker movement. dont do loads of warm up sets on deadlift though!! Your already pretty warmed up

not stating facts. Member 3100, 502 posts | I'm thinking of trying a 170 squat and then 210 for 3 on the deadlift afterwards on Friday. Sets for the deadlift 60 for 5, 100 for 3, 140 for 1,180 for 1 and then up to 210? Would them jumps be okay, max is around 230 at moment.

Member 4601, 118 posts | It makes a lot of sense from a powerlifting point of view as you will be pulling after having squatted, so training like that will get your body used to it should you want to compete in powerlifting

AKA the great reset Member 4056, 5206 posts | Squat bench and deadlift same session twice a week. Do another day devoted to more bodybuilding/assistance work. I'm getting good gains though that's probably because I am weak and more is better for my level. I class myself as intermediate. But compared to a lot on here im certainly a novice/beginner.

Member 4522, 1898 posts SQ 222.5, BP 152.5, DL 245620.0 kgs @ 120kgs UnEq | I think volume has to be stepped down when doing both in one session. My back used to be noticeably fatigued going from deadlift to squat. And quads used to be pretty fatigued going from squats to deadlift. So just bear that in mind.

I'd consider that more than adequate warm up, personally I wouldn't do nearly that much if I'd squatted first. As for doing both in the same session, I tried it for a while, but found myself struggling with whatever exercise I had second, that said, if you aren't planning to max the 2nd exercise, but rather get some speed work in, or sets in the 3 - 5 range, then I think it can work.

I took about £4 out of Sooty's bottom Member 685, 8719 posts SQ 225, BP 150, DL 290665.0 kgs @ 93kgs UnEq | I always liked deads followed by squats...with strict presses inbetween. Basically my ideal weights session.

Id start at around bodyweight, anything less is too light to be worth doing.

Member 2793, 523 posts SQ 245, BP 175, DL 302.5722.5 kgs @ 84kgs UnEq | I've been squatting and deadlifting heavy in the same session, before and since being coached by Tom. I love it, as my deads always seem to better after squatting, even if I'm lifting close to max. I believe that I've progressed reasonably well.

Are horror films healthy...? Member 5449, 2203 posts | This is a fantastic way of training IMHO Far too often in the past I haven't warmed up properly for deadlifts and therefore not performed at my best... Do that a few too many times and it can either lead to injury or at the very least less than great progression Squats before deadlifts completely take this issue out for lots if reasons The only thing left is relative poundages for either on any given day which your coach decides Keep up the good work!
