great day just got back to portsmouth after an epic drive.... who knew the trusty clio could do 110!

Trained 4 times in 4 weeks, and the goal today was to enjoy it, and I definately did that...

weighed at half eight ish.... bang on 90 fully clothed so no problems.

car deadlift....wanted 3, did 6.... made me feel sick as a dog!
medley....wanted??? did???? tied with smalls exactly though
dumbell.....wanted 5 got 4 very nearly five, weight increased by 5kg overnight though!
fingals.....expected 0.... got 0.... put it on the floor instead of the tyre just to make it a bit harder for myself!!
yoke..... couldnt be bothered with this.... never trained it properly and it showed.... about 5 meters maybe a bit more

met some great lads who I've known over the tinterweb for a while. boar is a very humble guy and a great strongman. paggers is obviously a grafter and just kept going although his yoke in particular f**king flew. many more great performances to many to mention.

thanks to young James who made me look a t**t by running me close on the medley even though he wasnt competing.... beating me by about a foot or so I think.... thanks for doing that james was better than doing it on my own.

thanks to graham and the caged steel team for a great day out....most enjoyable day of strongman I have done...

tenth out of thrirteen overall, as I predicted to my uncle at the start of the day! happy with that, mainly because I had fun and it reminded me why I do this in the first place.

firstly thank you to all the organisers and spotters/loaders for such a smooth running day.

i had a great time cheering on those u90kg and u 105kg beasts. then i got to compete after result.

1st event car deadlift
couldnt get to where i wanted to be set up wise which forced most of the strain on to my quads i steadily banged out 13 reps with a little time left but no hope of another rep

joint 4th

2nd event massive great big f**k off dumbell 75kg
having been last out on the deadlift and the running order being picked for each event before we started i was drawn 1st on the dumbell i literally went to the tent after the deadlift and swopped shoes and i was still panting while macca counted us in(thats just how it goes sometimes ) i managed 3 reps

probably bagged joint last on that

3rd event medley of death
3 loads then 280 frame to 280 drag i flew upto about 3 meters into the drag then just tugged it the rest of the way after finishing i spew up just in front of the crowd.

not my finest hour but bagged 3rd place
(i thought of all the events i would have won this one. i think the times were very close thou)

at this point i was in 4/5th place and i wasnt really pleased with that so

fingals finger 180kg
i was out last which was a god send as i had done 5 at a fast pace in training with some in the tank. the best lads got 5 on this then sort walked off or were gassed. i paced myself as i didnt fancy throwing up again and got to 5 with 15 secs left. nailed the 6th flip

event winner

yoke 380kg 30m drop and turn at 15
started of shakey as f**k drop twice on the first 10 then hit a my stride dropped it on 15 and beasted the f**ker back. 41 something seconds

event winner

last event yorkshires stone 159 for distance no time limit
at this point i was 2nd with 1.5 points between me and liam so i needed to beat him by 2 places for a win. simon flint who was third put in a massive distance just before me. i think i went 93 meters with it i am not sure

event winner

liam went next and went 90 which gave him 2nd and kept me at bay by just 0.5 points

2nd overall

more importantly i had a fun day out. and didnt get anymore injuries
AvatarRobbo
Mark, you were immense! 3 event wins on the trot! So unlucky not to take 1st place! Did yourself and Yorkshire proud! Well done mate!
Avatarbrocerslrd
Man I ache this morning.

Quick run down of how it went for me.

Car deadlift. Didn't get strap on right and it flew off on first pull so just grabbed the handles and pulled. 8 reps and first time ever done side handles so happy with that.
Medly. Went second on this with Elliot the farmers was steady and he was judt in front of me as we went to the digger bucket, I carried this high on m y chest to make the load easier and it paid off as I caught up, farmers suit case was next on then the barrel which I lapped at the pick up and again got high for an easier load. Then it was the 200kg frame drag, got it moving but about half way ground to a halt and resorted to planting my feet and then pulling with my shoulders and arm, not fast but completed it.
Monster DB again with Elliot 55kg was a pb for a single for me and i really couldn't control it on the way down so each rep was off the floor. Got 7
Bulmers shaft. Really struggled with this got it close then dropped it so started again and managed to get it over with just about everybody screaming at me (cheers guys). 1 rep
Yoke. This was again a pb for me so just wanted to finish it 38 seconds so not quick but was good enough for 6/7th
After 5 events I was 5th by half a point. Was about 10 points off 4th but really wanted a good showing on the Yorkshire stone carry. We were all looking at different pick ups and how best to carry it. I went to try and get my arms round it and interlock my finger but it's just too big. I ended up having it in my arms like a half curl and clenching my fists so hard I couldn't feel my fingers. It seemed to work as I did over 10 lengths. I then had to watch the rest of the guys chase my target. They all went balls to the wall but I managed to still be in the lead and win the event. Didn't change the result but an event win against Boar, Pagen, Eric and Liam will do me.

Top day and really happy with how i did, just wish i'd been able to train coming into the comp
AvatarCuddles
This looks like an awesome comp all round, congrats to all involved.
