can you put dayle longford s name down for the 105's rob
Avatarrichiebevan
can you please put my name on the reserves list for the novice comp, just on the off chance you don't get enough Welshmen.
AvatarRob_Bush
I certainly will Richie. I have already had some interest displayed by other fellow Englishmen but I will, of course, put your name down on the reserve list.

Hi Simon,

I have asked Andy Cairney's opinion about your participation in the Welsh qualifier as I would like the BSM 105 organiser's input. I personally have no problem whatsoever with you competing "unofficially" in the Welsh qualifier but I'm sure you can understand, it has to be sanctioned by governing bodies, and in this case the decision rests at with Andy.

On a separate note, it is wonderful that there is a passion for competing in your home country and as another proud Welshman, I hope that your participation will be considered as legitimate and I will look forward to running a comp with you competing in.

There is certainly scope for a Welsh under 90s but we must start at the beginning by introducing a First Timers & Novice - many of which, I'm sure will be under 90kg. In time, the goal is to establish a full selection of weight categories within Wales and nurture a fraternity of strongmen that span the relevant weight classes. It's early days and it may take some time, hard work and a rigorous campaign to drive the strongmen of Wales out of their gyms, rugby clubs and living rooms in order to be able to run a multitude of comps that can contribute towards a sound, better and properly represented Britain's or UK's. After Dale Norris and Owen Lewis represented us in August at the UKs, I hope that it's shown the rest of the UK that Wales can offer a very real threat to the final placings at a prestigeous comp such as Glen's.

Hi Simon,

After speaking to Ross and Andy, the general consensus is that - like this years Wales’ Strongest Man Open - competitors that have lived and competed outside of Wales for the past 2+ years are no longer eligible to compete in a National Competition where a Wales’ Strongest Man title is at stake. This would undermine any placing that each competitor would receive as in, if you won the comp, Wales’ Strongest Man 2011 @ 105kg would in fact have come second in the comp in which they should have won. The whole trophy thing would also be confusing for the spectators when the winner of the comp leaves with nothing and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th places receive the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes!!!

I hope this is an understandable decision and the very best of luck in the Southern qualifier.

There is a set of rules in place that governs entry into the 105s as it will be a National comp with a National title at stake. Although the First Timers/Novice category isn't at that level, we would dearly like to improve the numbers of Welsh competitors by filling as many places as possible with home grown talent before accepting entries from our neighbouring countries.

I have received several enquiries regarding this issue and have already compiled a list of potential reserves that may be added to the list of competitors should our desired number of places not be filled over the forthcoming weeks/months. The list is in order of enquiry therefore the first name on the list will be the first name added.

The list will be posted at the bottom of post 1, page 1.
