I distinctly remember that box being a b**ch to move. The delivery driver refused to bring it to my flat.

Just finished a busy 5 days of training with 'Dana'. Those last two intervals hurt. Good workout though.

5 day TSS - 567.

that's plenty of graft right there, the one you had to bail out from must have been horrific for you to stop after 30 mins !

Any suggestions on my first go ? I'm thinking I need to lower my FTP or I may come unstuck

If you're fairly fresh id do an ftp test. Otherwise I'd just put your old ftp in and do a sufferfest workout that you know you enjoy. 'Young' and 'Charybdis' are both fun and won't kill you

Make sure you have it set to erg mode and do a calibration first.

And yeah - I've survived local hero before but you need to be right on your best imo. I think some of the sufferfest vids are actually far too hard, in a macho, beat the f**k out of yourself way to be productive. I could have done more, but would have been in bits today. The best routines take you to the edge and hold you there. Many of the sufferfest vids will catapult you a mile over it.

That's a huge amount of TSS for five days on the bike. I need a rest having read that!

I don't know whether I'm more jealous of the Kickr or the fact you can get next day delivery and it actually turn up the next day!

you do get to live on a fantastic island ! cost me an extra 3.99 for next day so musnt grumble

I was 'live tracking' my parcel all around town.

a couple of questions:

updated firmware

I did a calibration/spindown

my laptop is connected via ant+ and not Bluetooth , I have read that this is ok

do I do the 'power smoothing' ? (I had it on no smoothing)

...during my test the power was a bit jumpy (+/- 10 watts) , am I right in thinking that in erg mode, the power should be bang on and you just have to cycle ?

I don't really understand your question about the connection to be honest. Does your laptop have ant+ built in? If not then you'd need a dongle. if it does have it built in then I didn't realise that even a thing!

I don't use power smoothing no. And no, your power will fluctuate. If you kept your cadence exactly the same it wouldn't, but any change in your cadence at the same resistance will change the amount of power you are putting out. Trainerroad has to detect that, then work out what to do to the resistance to keep your power back at your target and then communicate that back to the kickr which does it. This is the same on any smart trainer.

It really doesn't take long at all. Of course the more the power you are putting out fluctuates the more it has to adjust. You don't want this though. You want to be able to put out nice smooth power for prolonged periods of time.

I will have a go in the morning , I was just faffing about a bit too much as we had a guy coming round to price something up (and them guys always annoy me)

I was a bit worried ant+ would be inferior to Bluetooth , but I have looked it up and it seems not to be the case.

apart from updating the firmware, it looks like I wont need my phone atall.

All sorted

went back and did the 20 minute FTP , could feel when the ERG mode was activated and when it left me to it

my FTP is 230 , I was pissing sweat but not at my max heart rate , but I will take that as pretty accurate about 10-15 points difference from the cycle-ops measurement

Really enjoyed Sufferfest Blender tonight, although a bit disappointing my power targets for 20 second intervals (which were tough) were 50 watts lower than Cancellara's normalised power for 70 minutes!
