Joni, if you tell people you don't eat meat here in France they look at you like you like you come from another planet. Welcome to meet country.
Veggie pasties are like golddust. I need to get in the veggie import business!

The contest is for BWLA members only for liability reasons and BWLA cannot be associated with the the use of drugs in sport.
There are non tested organisations in the uk you might want to refer to their calender of events.

I think you are taking a bit of a narrow view there Bryn.

Powerlifting, non tested and tested needs to attract more support, more lifters for the sport to thrive. The majority will go down the tested route in due course in any event, so BWLA will benefit.

To correct you on two facts, there are several competitions a year in Wales where BWLA and non BWLA lifters compete alongside one another on the platform - so thats the liability angle taken are of. So with planning and effort this could happen.

It is also not correct that we (non tested lifters) would be competing directly with the tested boys. I am non tested but I train with tested boys and have loaded in many contests, so please don't give me the "non association" line, like I've got the plague or something.

Anyway who said anything about using drugs?? I was refering to tested and non tested competitors.

I am well aware of the other comps run by BPO and BPC. These are great but they could easily be supplemented by local and regional lifting, involving local bodybuilders, rugby clubs, etc.

Of course we want to attract new people into competitions but I firmly believe BWLA contests are for BWLA members to compete in. If someone is opting not to be tested then the implication is that they have something to hide(why would a clean lifter not want to be tested?). It would be very confusing for any spectators to diferentiate between two groups of lifters. BWLA sanctioned events have a set of rules that have to be followed and there are benefits to being part of a large organisation. One such benefit is that its members are insured, for example if a piece of equipment failed and injured a lifter that was a non member who would be liable? I hate the claims culture that exists in this country but its a very real consideration.
Your suggestion is unworkable in the real world.

Bryn - Entry posted this very morning
AvatarPorkPie
Well I don't think we're going to agree on this one Bryn.

You are wrong that these events don't work - they already happen in Wales and are a success in promoting powerlifting to a wider audience.

Good luck for the contest anyway.
Avatarbrynevans
If there are anymore entries for this contest please let me know via email asap.
Ive not had many entries so far possibly due to the postal strike.

Hey bryn will the NW Open in December be open to non-NW division BWLA members? I know it's equipped but unequipped lifters can compete in equipped comps can't they?

On the subject of non-BWLA members in BWLA competitions - I can see why non-BWLA members can't compete especially with the ridiculous liability stuff these days. What about BWLA-affiliated members though? Because I am a BWLA member and not a WPU (Welsh Powerlifting Union) member I wasn't going to be allowed to compete for Wales at the 4 nations unless I joined WPU even though WPU is affiliated to BWLA. Why does BWLA have a Wales division if you still have to join WPU to compete in and for Wales? That means I have to have 2 memberships and thus pay more.... The WPU membership I have will also be applicable for 2008 - would I be able to compete at BWLA comps with WPU membership next year???? It sounds to me as if powerlifting needs to start unifying rather than splintering!!!!
Avatarbrynevans
If you are a BWLA member from outside the NW then you can enter the contest as a guest lifter in the same way you have done in the past. You are welcome to enter the December contest and you of course can lift unequipped as has been explained before the use of knee wraps, squat/DL suits and bench shirts is optional in all the contests other than those which are "unequipped" so it should not stop any unequipped lifters from entering.
As far as the WPU is concerned I have no idea what there rules are, it seems remarkable that you can't be in the 4 nations even though you are a BWLA member. Thats probably something to ask Steve Cannon.
AvatarFruitbat
well to save hassle and stress I just joined WPU which under exceptional circumstances they have agreed to extend for next year also so that I can do the 4 nations this year and not have to pay £20 membership for a few months.

Il be at the comp gona post my entry tomorrow
Avatarbrynevans
Thats great, with the current postal strike situation it might be better if you paid on the day. I'll put you on the list!

Hi I will be going, I have only just started out so I want to see how a comp is run and all that. Aiming to compete next year
AvatarRick
I'll happily be platform crew as usual, Bryn.
Avatarbrynevans
Thanks Rick, all help is very much appreciated. Its about time was saw you under the bar, could 2008 be the year?
AvatarRick
Nothing's impossible, but I have no particular plans. I love the powerlifts, and I enjoy comps, but I'm just not a very competitive person (except with myself).
AvatarBoar
THE best place to compete against yourself is on the platform !!

thats what we all do up there*

*except those competing against each other
