Bike sprints, bodyweight squats, rowing, anything that gets your heart rate up, do that for a minute, then walk about to recover for 2 minutes, and slowly increase work and decrease recovery. Supposedly theres an extra boost afterwards called EPOC, that's your metabolism staying fired up. Can last for hours if the work is intense enough.

i do KB Tabata Alt swing once per week and have recently started a Spin Class for 4 weeks and already signed up for another 5 week class.

i could put a complex at the end of the pressing day

Maybe you should talk to your Dr about thyroid issues then. Unless you're pretty off on the amounts you're eating, it sounds like you're doing everything right. That sucks. Sorry I've nothing more to offer.

thats what i'm thinking, but the last time i had them checked about 4 years ago he said they were normal. but is that related to a normal average weight person or doesn't that matter?

I second this.

I've used some assumptions with the calculator linked below, as I don't know your age or height but your body should be burning probably at least 2,800kcals per day AT REST! Taking into account general moving about and your exericse regime this would probably add at least a further 1000kcals a day. (even sitting up burns significantly more calories than lying down which is the position adopted for the Basal Metabolic Rate)

http://www.bmi-calculator.net/bmr-calculator/

If you're only consuming 2,100kcals/day then something is up. If your thyroid is underactive it is soooo easily to rectify that the weight could start dropping off you within a couple of weeks of treatment commencing.

Neil.

My 2 cents. Keep it all as simple as possible. Something does not add up with what you're doing. I am sure the medication can affect your scale weight with water retention etc, but you should be able to shift some weight. I think there is just too much thinking here. Even your meal plan confuses the hell out of me, let alone the variety of exercises, complexes etc.

Keep the gym stuff simple. Just do the normal, basic lifts for sensible weights/reps etc. Be it 531, 5s or whatever you want, keep it basic. Lift 2 -3 days a week max, e.g. 1 lower, 2 upper.

Eat 3 basic meals a day and by all means manage the carbs. My brief encounter with weight loss worked around restricting cabs in the morning and evening. Use a calorie counter as others have suggested.

Go for a walk every day. 20 minutes. Work up from there. Do it religiously, only skip it if you are bed ridden!

Monitor your weight but stick to a simple plan for a month - only your food intake should change.

You will lose strength in some movements because of leverges etc, but this is unavoidable. You will gain in quality of life and in the long term you may end up stronger at a healthy 120kg than an unhealthy 150kg.

If your current calorie count is right, you may end up on something quite low indeed, but if the training is simple and manageable, you can focus on the diet. And to me, walking is really key. It's good for you, burns calories and doesn't mess up your joints. bo***cks to complexes, bands and all the other stuff. Walking+basic lifts to maintain muscle makes sense.

Hope you take the above as well-meaning. It is!

All the best with whatever you choose.

30g of protein within 30 mins of waking up will induce a metabolic and hormonal response.

Stack this before meals to block fat:
Alpha lipoic acid 100-300mg
Green tea extract 325mg
Garlic extract 200mg

Also have you heard Thelps eats 12,000 cals a day? Even if he did butterfly for 6 hours a day he'd struggle to burn it off? The reason he can eat so much? Thermogenics my friend, he's swimming in cold water. Make this work for you, go for a walk in your t-shirt for 30 mins morn or evening when it's fecking freezing, your body will have to regulate temperature!?

Ever heard of the GLUT-4 pathway? Means your body can absorb more carbs around exercise. Do a few sets of KB swings before meals?

Don't let your insulin get elevated, this hormone stores fat. Learn to control the master hormone, leptin, and insulin will fall like a domino. Lemon (fresh, squeezed into water) before a meal stops insulin getting to high, so does fat and protein. Carbs make it spike up like a f**ker!

Loads more tricks mate PM if you want more.

Loosing weight is always good. Neil , whats the lightest tou have weighed in your adult life ? How many diets have you tried ? I'm not exactly a success story at weight management but what is your realistic final target weight ?

Hmm I think at 18 I was 115kg, and a wee bit chubby. Only tried maybe 4 times to loose weight and the most I have lost was I think 12kg's and that was at uni.

But this last 4 years has seen my weight increases drop slightly increase stay stable drop increase. Abd at the moment I'm stuck at 157kg after loosing the weight I stuck on with the meds that I was I as it was a side effect that I wasn't awear of.

Ideally my target weight in my mind is 135kgs at 181cm and my build I thought that would be a realistic target and anything below would be a bonus.

Don't know I'd I'm in dreamland but I do need to get something going to help.

What's the target date for the weight..

Atm I'm staying the same weight if maybe dropping a few pounds a month but I'm getting stronger and bigger in arms, shoulders, legs etc so obviously om loosing fat. Have you taken into consideration that your probs gaining muscle?

Also whey before bed is fairly pointless imo, get the casein or a bedtime formula on the go.

Go to the Docs.

If everything you say is correct (and Im certainly not saying that it isnt), then you got something with you. Probably worth getting at least a full thyroid test.

Although one thing I would add, I think most people grossly overestimate their calorie expenditure from exercise and often underestimate their calorie intake. A lot of the stuff you read on the net also massively overestimates calorie expenditure.

i have used the casein stuff before and my stomach dosn't like it and i could s**t through the eye of a needle form a mile away when i used that stuff. but you might be right Scott in trems of building muscle and then translating over to a calorie burn. but again i think there is also something wrong but need that comfirming.

Pascal - sadly i only frequent the CHIPPY once per month as a treat.

Oly - thank s dude i 'm keeping a Food Dairy this month

I keep a food dairy Neil. It amazed me when I looked back how many times Id wrote 'coffee'. You think you only do things a few times a day but when you log it you realize!!!

Btw I thought I was a moderate coffee drinker 3-6 a day. Turns out I was drinking nearer 8.
