I heard the licensing fee was doubled so they refused to pay. I'm not surprised metal didn't pay, they're a huge name in the multiply world, you don't see a LOT of people using their single ply stuff.

Surely a lifter pays for his equipment and so should be able to wear what he likes. Why the f**k should the company pay a fee to the IPF.

Do adidas pay the premier league a fee to allow the use of their boots?

It states that the ban on Craine and Metal starts on 6th June 2010, but the APT ban starts on the 8th Feb.

I am wondering if the GBPF will follow suit and ban the Metal singlet/leotard from its comps? I've asked the same question on the GBPF Forum.

Singlets are not affected by this. You do not have to use a singlet from an approved equipment supplier (although if the logo is bigger than the allowed size for non approved logos you would need to cover it)

Bad news for those lifters who use that equipment
Bad news for me as APT were one of the GBPF Masters sponsors.

If they haven't pulled out, we should not encourage them to. (And they can still sell us, and we can still use, belts.)

I have just read the IPF rulebook. It says that t-shirts must be plain except under certain conditions; this is pretty clear. It's also clear on supportive equipment (shirts, suits and wraps); these are forbidden unless explicitly permitted on an item-by-item bases.

It also provides (in the equipment rules and kit check rules) that sponsor's logos may be worn under certain conditions on belts and on singlets, and that manufacturer's logos need not be covered under certain other conditions. HOWEVER - it does not, very definitely does not, give ANY conditions under which logos MAY NOT appear. (One might argue that it is implied, but it is not stated anywhere that e.g. anything not permitted is forbidden.)

It is clear to me that the rulebook does not prevent me from wearing my Metal singlet or APT belts and that there is no need for me to cover the logos.

If you disagree, I would like a page and paragraph reference to the rulebook, because I cannot find it.

I think you'd only have an issue if there was some overly officious person doing a kit check at an international event. My feeling is that domestically you could be ok. The logo fee is only 250 Euro and it's not clear if they have paid that.
