I am potentially doing the London to Paris bit in one go, ie cycle to Newhaven, ferry to Dieppe, cycle to Paris, reckon I can do it in about 30 hours although lack of sleep might be an issue.

A friend is doing it in honour of a friend of hers who died of leukaemia but the person she was doing it with has had to drop out so I've stepped in last minute. If anyone has a few spare pounds and wants to do a good deed today, her sponsorship page is the following: www.justgiving.com/jo-wood-pedal-power It's in aid of Leuka, a cause really close to my heart. wow shes done well looking at current donations!! ill add a contribution, hope it goes well Im aiming to do something as helpful for a charity one day

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | Owen, Boar, you're both good people, Jo says huge thanks (and genuinely so) x Yeah Boar, it is a cool feature, which with regular access to the right roads and climbs would really come into it's own. You can set the virtual trainer to ride at any speed you like, it tells you how far in front/behind it you are in time and distance, and you can set it to show where the virtual partner is on the map in relation to you too. You can even set it to mimic a previous ride of yours too, so if you had done a time on a route and wanted to beat it next time out, it will show you, in real time, where you currently are in relation to the previous ride. Thinking about it, I don't use it enough, and have just had a couple of ideas for how I should!

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | Friday 22nd August Training 13.5 miles AM 15 miles PM Diet Pain o chocolat Frijj Some minstrels Hot dog with pulled pork, chips, onion rings and a pint of kronenbourg Slice of chocolate cake Fruit and milk smoothie Ragu sauce and parmesan Bowl of posh muesli Notes Riding was just commute. The plan had been to do 50+ miles every day this week, but then with the unexpected Paris trip I'd rather not have even cycled today but there was no way I was getting the train. Pootled along really. Similarly I realised that being even close to a calorie defect over the next 5 days is a bad idea, so just ate what I wanted to/had in the house. Lunch was in wetherspoons and s**t (there's f**k all choice near to work), although for £6 it was unbelievable value.

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | Saturday 23rd August Training 110km Diet Large bowl of cocopops Latte with carrot cake 4 fig rolls large bowl of cocopops fruit smoothie Notes Again, in an ideal world wouldn't have ridden today, but I couldn't let my training partner down so off we went. Would have done this ride fasted any other saturday but again, want to put myself in the best possible position for tomorrow. Probably a bit too much climbing really but f**k it. Plan for tomorrow is: - Cycle to Newhaven - 11pm ferry to Dieppe, arriving at 4am - Cycle from Dieppe to Paris Cycling in the dark, in a foreign country will be... interesting, and I have no idea how I will cope with the sleep deprivation. It'll be about 200-220 miles without sleep. f**k it, we only live once!

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14374 posts | I remember a good few years back I got a courier job to the middle of France and back. Was awake for something like 32 hours driving up the M6 @ 3am. Never had hallucinations like it. Slowing down every time I approached a bridge because it looked like it was collapsing, hearing voices coming at me from different directions etc... Pffft It was bad stuff. You should enjoy it

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | Update - made Paris on no sleep. Has to cheat a little and get the train the first 25 miles as I wouldn't have made my ferry otherwise. The cycled through the night and all day yesterday. Weather was f**king hideous but it was a good laugh and we got to the Eiffel Tower at about 9pm last night. No mind trips, but some f**king weird dreams last night. Not to late to donate a couple of quid to a great cause xx

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | I have been riding my bike, but not exactly 'training.' Last month (1300+ miles) plus Paris, plus being busier than a busy man has meant that I've been a bit f**ked. Did Hill Hell tonight, will update with details tomorrow when I've got them off the old Garmin.

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | When I get a spare hour or so I will update this properly with a write up of the last few days in Italy and the trip to Paris, just been so busy with the new job that I've let it all slip. Tuesday 9th September Training AM - 13.8 miles PM - 5.8 miles - warm up PM - 14.8 miles - Hill Hell - New Road PM - 9.3 miles - spin home Notes My training is a bit all over the place at the moment with the new academic year and so getting out before dark is difficult. Needed to get a workout in so decided to go and use an old training hill that's on the way home. Aim was to get 12 ascents in, which I managed in 57:25 for 678m of climbing. Nothing special, but it wasn't meant to be. The 12th climb was 1 second quicker than the first, so I held my strength pretty well. Going to keep records of my best results over the hour on a few hills and rotate them as and when. Diet - still aiming to get a 16 hour fast in as often as possible but it's not been as consistent as I'd like. I've also been eating a tonne of s**t food. Still, I'm about as lean as I've been, and I'm light, so evidently it's not doing me too much harm.

Eat.Cycle.Sleep.Win Member 2, 12511 posts SQ 190, BP 150, DL 280620.0 kgs @ 99kgs UnEq Administrator | Wednesday 10th September Training AM - 14.9 miles PM - 23 miles - 3.5 mile w/u, 12 mile TT, 7.5 mile spin home Diet Roast gammon, roast potatoes, cous cous, pasta, large salad 2 slices of cake Lot's of roses chocolates Scotch egg houmous with carrots Filled pasta with cheese Southern fried chicken and mayo Cookies and cream ice cream Notes Boar got me intrigued as to what my current 'flat' speed was like so set out to do a 10 mile TT, forgot to look at my Garmin so it ended up being 12 miles. Didn't prepare for it really, just went and rode. On the positives, I got caught at two junctions and behind a slow bus, on the negative, I think I had a tailwind for about 60-65% of it. Clocked 30:08 for the 12 miles for an average speed of 23.9mph. All in all I'm pretty pleased with that. Some TT specific training and I hope to get sub 25 minutes for 10 miles every time. It also gives me belief that I can get the sub hour 25 miler done at the start of the TT season, or maybe more if I get a good run of training in.
