I was talking to a guy at Europes who was with his son and it was the first comp he'd seen live and he was so excited to see the guys in the flesh that he had watched on tv. Ed Hall came out to give his t shirt to a young lad in the crowd and he was so happy you could tell he's gonna want to watch other comps, Ed gave the lads dad a hug aswell and he looked like he was about to cry! Looked more like a football fan finally meeting a player he'd been watching for 20 years. These are the people we need at comps not just lads off sugden but passionate fans that are never going to compete themselves. The accessibility of the athletes is a massive selling point which is fairly unique to strongman. The guys were staying hours after the comp to take pictures and talk to fans, people appreciate that and will want to come again. There were thousands of people chanting Eds name when he went for the deadlift, there has never been atmosphere like that for strength sports anywhere. Would you rather have that or would you rather 250 people go to watch because it had barely been advertised? There was a moment when Bryce said he was sitting in an Eastern European pub with Svend wondering if the sport was ever going to get anywhere and it looks like it is going somewhere a massive part of which is thanks to advertising on social media.
