Somewhat ironic given all the advantages that strongmen should have, that both the two biggest lifts were in powerlifting comps. Something to be said for technique after all?

SM have a whole host of other lifts and specific conditioning to do and still the there are loads of awesome deadlifters even if if they did them to strict standards.

Of course you are right there are many other events that strongmen have to do. However, do strongmen practice the deadlift in one of its many variations as often as powerlifters? Obviously I can't speak for top strongmen but judging from what i've seen in strongman blogs on Sugden, I'd say probably. Maybe the point I was trying to make was that while the weights seen on deadlift in strongmen comps is much higher than in powerlifting comps, the heaviest weights off the floor were done without straps and hitches.

I agree with that I train with a top ten strongman and his deadlift days would be preaty similar to a power lifter even know his goals are not only to get good at deadnlifting buto to help with picking up the framers the stones with a power lifter his would be to increse his one rep max where strongmen very rare have a one rep max it will be intresting to see what happens to be fair I think more people wont to see it more than the comp there is
Always that who could pull more debates least we will see

I don't want to write Loz off, but... I do agree with this.

Loz has had a lot of injuries, and although still a very very good strongman, the chances of him coming back to his best and then improving are quite slim in my eyes.

Ed on the other hand is a true beast and just keeps on getting better.
