Had a good train yesterday and have started comp specific prep for Cheshire 27.3.11. Haven't really been focusing training on specific comp weights or times until yesterday, just been going through the motions and hitting as many 1RMs as possible in the gym and on event day. A great deal to improve on but I'll be stronger and faster on the day... I hope!!!



120kg Log for 7 reps in 48 seconds. Made a fatal mistake here by stopping for air after a fast and very easy 5 reps in the first 20 seconds. Ridiculously, I only got another two out in 30 seconds!!! Don't worry though, I'll be looking for 10 reps next week now I know how easy and fast the first 5 were yesterday.



130kg Farmers for 19m in 11 Seconds. A very poor event for me as I have a shockingly bad grip but it is improving and I will be hammering the 130s each week now and knocking a second or two off that. The painfully slow pick up alone would knock at least 1 second off the time.



350kg Yoke for 12m - very slippery on the shoulders as we had a typical Welsh morning weather wise so I dropped the yoke short of the designated 15m we normally run. About 6 seconds over 12m it seems as Project Goliath was on the vid and stopwatch.



350kg Yoke for 13m - made the distance but started 2m closer as no one fancied shifting back to the starting line! Much quicker and picked up some real speed at the end. I'll be hammering the 350kg yoke over the next month so will be hoping to run 15m in sub 10 and 20m in sub 14/13. Still, as they say, best laid plans!!!

All in all, I seem to be improving again this year and will be hoping for a better season and certainly pose myself as more of a threat on the circuit as it were!!!!!

Nice !

Looks good mate, just 1 thing thou, on the log no bouncing from the tyre as you wont be able to do this on the day !

Ok mate. When I spoke to Shane last he said it should be ok but no worries. Some of the drops were more of a bounce but some were definitely a touch base. In my opinion, the only way you can have absolutely no bouncing on this event is to use wooden blocks because with the best will in the world, lowering a 120kg log to a tyre and then trying to clean it up as fast as possible for reps will always induce some kind of a bounce each and every time. Just touching base on a tyre is a bounce so maybe blocks will have to be used on the day as we'll all be using the same technique.

very impressive. nial beat me to it tho. i would hope that in a comp every rep u did on the log would be a no rep. didnt lock em right out n hold for sec and bounced em all off the tyres. didnt look like u would have the slightest prob locking n liftin them properly as it looked silly easy for u, just saying

im f**king dreading this comp to be honest. have a push pull, the unit comp and the grand prix the 3 weekends straight before, i may die on this day Grin oh and i hate log, give me an axle any day

I fully understand your feedback gents and have no problem at all locking the reps out for 1 second longer. Reps 1, 6 and 7 were not bounced in any way so I would expect 3 reps to be given at ANY comp!!! Providing I lock them out for 1 second longer that is!!! I値l be lifting the log from two wooden blocks next week so hopefully, we won稚 have to worry about the bouncing issue as I知 assuming I値l be allowed to touch base rather than having to ground the log each time. Even at the Worlds when two athletes went head to head on the wooden logs they just tapped the floor and repped again. Surely there's not going to be a problem with that!

Yeah, your quite right mate. It's all down to the ref on the day so all we can do is just chip away at the training and hope it pays off come comp day. I'll definitely be taking a bit longer to execute the reps though as there's nothing worse than getting reps disallowed for silly errors. I'm letting quantity get in the way of quality! Problem is it's a very fine balance when you only have 60 seconds!!!

i am s**t at log so in some ways im glad its only 60 secs lol. your right tho in that short time rushing reps n gettin em disallowed will be costly.

i think u were quilty of holding your breath for a few reps mate, we all do it lol, then when u stopped to catch your breath it was like wow. i did it the other day on deads, blasted a load quick n then stopped for a sec n lungs were burning

I dont honestly see how, on the log, you can have a rep disallowed

Rules are clear before the event and one should never deviate from lockout of the log unitl a clear DOWN signal is given by the ref
