She set new British records with each of her first two squats. The record belonged to Judy Oakes (who older athletics fans will probably remember) and had stood since 1988. Imo Marie's was the performance of the day. She probably has more British records to her name than anyone else currently lifting. A privilege to watch.

Dont eat my leg! Member 325, 189 posts SQ 145, BP 117.5, DL 190452.5 kgs @ 87.5kgs UnEq | Hi all, Just thought I would sign up and say a late thank you to all those who organised and helped out today (Martin, Bryn, spotters and loaders, and everyone I forgot). I had an absolute belter and it was a great comp. I would also like to confirm that the only reason Marie totalled more than me was because she was equipped and I wasn't. It's not at all because I am a doughy, mincing fairy with no strength. I'm moved home from uni now but I will definitely be making some regular trips up north to see you and continue my epic battles in the squat with Valerie! Keir

She went for a triple bodyweight 223.5 third squat and just missed it. Second squat was probably 215, which would make her dead 190. Sorry for misinfo!

Scotbasher - forever Member 59, 2115 posts | Marie pulled 190 so it must of been 215/95/190 =500 ? Ive not got the results yet but will publish them as soon as I have. Some first class lifting today, particularly Marie and Ian Shaws deadlift. A big thanks to all those who turned up and supported it by lifting, spotting, officiating and helping in the warmup area etc. Even my mother thought Martin was superb on the microphone! I was particularly pleased with the feedback I got on the use of multiple monitors it was so much easier to see the running order of the contest. Good to see plenty of Sugden faces there too, I'm glad Neil enjoyed the contest experience.

nothing to hide, please follow my life on webcam Member 255, 3732 posts | Marie did 205kg, 215kg, attempted 223.5kg. Her first two squats both broke Judy Oakes' record from 1989. She then benched 90kg and 95kg and deadlifted 170kg, 180kg and 190kg for 500kg.

I am a bench-only guy Member 3, 10037 posts SQ 185, BP 175, DL 235595.0 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq Administrator | We agreed on the way home that we actually thought (rather against our expectations) that the venue was if anything better than the others we've used of late in the NWC. Part of that was having the warmup area more conveniently at hand, part was having a better choice of racks for the squat, part of it was definitely the monitors and corresponding scoreboarding. It really was a great comp to lift in.

not particularly well educated Member 85, 11009 posts SQ 170, BP 130, DL 260560.0 kgs @ 90kgs UnEq | just got back from what was a very well run and extremely enjoyable competition! brilliant atmosphere ,big thanks to bryne for puting it on and allowing all us guests to lift, and full credit to Martin for doing a superb job as mc! I would also like to thank all the people who helped me on the day ,Joni and joe Bullock with making weight, the referee for putting up with having to weigh me numerous times,Andy with the deadlift advice (and the after deadlift smoke) and all the spotters and loaders for the little words of encouragement and advice. Highlights for me were Ian shaws deadlift ,and my conversation with Jim blanchflower about the merits of a pre squat s**t whilst sitting in neighbouring toilets!

Old Age Presser Member 75, 7849 posts SQ 0, BP 200, DL 200400.0 kgs @ 105kgs Eq | Couple of comments. Thanks to everyone who wrote kind words about my little contribution today, both here and by email. Nice to know I'm doing it in a way that people seem to enjoy. Seems sensible to say thanks once here rather than in lots of different journals. More importantly, the positive good that the internet in general and Sugden in particular can do for the sport was ably demonstrated today. I think it's fair to say that Malc, Neil, Ed and Keir, and possibly a couple of others, would have not competed today but for the forum/internet - and the event would have been the poorer for their absence. And great lifting by Tony B and John shouldn't go unnoticed either. A pleasure to be a small part of it guys.
