Monday 06/06/11

Deadlift. My back felt and feels terrible. Crushed!
60*8, 90*3, 120*1, 135*1, 147.5* FAIL!, 130*3, 115*5 Reps on way down made up for failure at top end. Managed to pick 147 up with speed but my weakness is pushing hips through, pulling shoulders back and chest through. Need more upper body strength.

BB bench. I made it to the big plates, WOOHOO! Bench is getting much stronger, hopefully higher next week, oh yes!
40*5, 45*1, 52.5*1, 60kg*1 PB, 55*3, 50*5

Squats. Not very good to be honest, but next time will be better!
45kg 8*2

Power Jerk. Should go higher, this is a bit too light I'm not tiring by the end.
35kg 8*2

Lat pull down. 8 plates 4*10 had to superset with...
Strict Press. 27.5kg 4*10, ooooooh everybody loves strict press (I'm hoping if I say it often enough it'll come true!)

Thanks everyone! I'm afraid I don't have anything very impressive to report today :-(

Tuesday Morning
45-minute cross trainer with resistance set to 40 so I was sweaty betty personified by the end but was pleased to finally feel fit enough again to make it all the way through, I used to do that most days (before the weights took over!)

Tuesday Evening because I just can't get enough!
Did a circuit with a partner (who needs to sort his life out and keep up lol!). Did three exercises consecutively; 35 kg Power clean, 35kg thruster, burpee.
Once through each cycle, then twice, three times up to 10. Which was blooming hard but not as hard as last weeks circuit, so try again DAVE! When we hit 10 at the top started to head back down to 1 however it took soooooo long I was told to stop at 6. Proceeded to throw a tantrum because I wanted to go all the way back down to one, but coach said no. Sorry coach!

Wednesday
Push press
40kg*5
50kg*1
55kg*1
57.5kg*Fail AGAIN!

Squat

80kg*3 Back was too sore and is not designed to be pushed to its limit every session but more importantly I am not of the strongmanwoman variety who will push through so did volume instead!

Deficit Deadlift- Speedy, legs definitely felt worked :-)

Did a 15 minute circuit - Deadlift 60kg, 10 press ups, 10 lat pull downs, 3 minute sets

Clean and Press
40*5, 45*3, 50*1, 55*1,
60kg- managed to complete the clean but could not press. Pleased to get the clean this week as I didnt last week. Had another attempt at it but could only manage the pull phase of the movement, so I've definitely found my max!
55kg managed to clean 5 but could only press 2
50kg*5 Good final set, punchy!

18" Deadlift
120*5, tried 160 but couldnt budge no matter how many times I tried, 140kg*5, 140*3

Monday 13/6
Deadlift
90*3, 120*1, Belt 135*1, Belt and Straps 147.5*1 PB, Belted 132.5*3 (had to have a few breaths inbetween each rep to make sure form was ok), Belted 120*5 also very tough last two reps took a few breaths again
Will keep weight here next week and try to avoid/minimise pause between each rep on way down.

BB Bench
45*5, 50*1, 5%*1, 62.5*1 PB, 57.5*3 (needed a spot to get third rep out of bottom)
52.5*5 (fifth rep needed that spot again)
Although I was pleased to get a second PB my technique didn't feel right, didn't have my feet set right so I wasn't generating force correctly. Hey ho!

Tuesday 13th June
30 minute run at a fair old pace in an attempt at last minute prep for the looming race for life!

Deadlifts
90*3
120*1, 135*1, 147.5*1 PB and felt pretty good, stronger lockout than last week
132.5*3 had to pause and take some breaths between each rep, really touhg
120*5 Good want to pick up the pace a bit before I move up

BB Bench
45*3, 50*1, 55*1, 62.5*1 PB
57.5*3 (needed a spot to get out of the bottom on third rep)
52.5*5 (needed a spot on fifth)


Wednesday 14th June
Box Squat 50 8*2
Power Jerk 40 8*2
Hang Clean 40 8*2
Strict Press 30kg 4*10 (only managed 9 reps on last set) Very pleased.


Saturday 18th June

I ran the 5K race for Life at Sutton Coldfield and came SECOND! I have to keep saying it because I will never ever come close to the top in a running race ever again and it shows that my cardiovascular system is still in order! Time wasn't amazing but it was better than average apparently, about 24mins.

Went to the gym afterwards seeing as I missed/rested on Thursday and Friday.
Clean and Press 45kg 5*5
Deficit deadlift 60kg 4*10
BB Bench, feet of floor a bit of a gay exercise but meh! 40kg 4*10
Seated row 6 plates 4*10

Had a lovely session, short and sharp. The way I used to train lol!

Monday 20th June

Have decided to alternate max sets with 5s each week. Will only do squats or deadlift max and then the other 5s. I am not ready or willing to cripple my spine which suffered after a couple of weeks.

BB Bench
40 *3
47.5 *1
55 *1
60 *Fail, spot out of the bottom, Attempt 2 *1 got it
62.5 *Fail
57.5 still needed the spot on the third rep
52.5 managed all 5 alone this week so an improvement on the last session
Excuses: Shirt was slipping along bench so couldn't generate the force in the right direction, but that was mainly due to my form in the first place. Need to set heels back down under bum a bit more. Was a bit pants but at least I got the reps on the way down

Box squat
50kg 8*2 Want theses faster and more solid

Power Jerk
40kg 8*2

Strict press
27.5 4*10 Argh!

Lat pull down
4*10 couldn't really be arsed by the end of the session. Naughty, need to dedicate a lot more time to my back!

80kg 5*5 last set I could only do five. My form was pants on all of them. Knees kept turning in because my glut med activation is pants and I wasn't focussed enough.

Found first two sets really tough, tougher than normal, think just tired brain so I wasn't really in gear. Funny hours of work and travel and sleep have taken their toll.

Thursday 23rd June
I went for a run again! Crazy! Ran to get bike from work ~20mins, cyled to gym, cross trainer 20 mins, Good old stretch! Cycled home ~20mins


Friday 24th June
Played around in Strength and Conditioning gym at Uni.

Axle continental clean and press. Worked on technique.
Managed a max rep with a bit of a jerk which was about 54kg. I need a lot more strength and technique.

Overhead press with resistance ban
Black band and 25kg 8*2

Squats with resistance band
40kg and blue rubber bands
