15/09/2013 - Bristol's Strongest Novice

My aim going into this was a podium finish. I was feeling confident and the best i ever had going into a comp.

Event 1 - Farmers Walk 100kg 20m
Moving has never been my strongest part but i knew i had to fly with these. The grass was a bit wet underfoot and i lost my footing twice but still hit a fast time.

9.8 seconds PB - 4th place

Event 2 - Overhead Medley (60kg keg, 80kg bar, 80kg log and 100kg axle)
This was my event as pressing is a good event for me. Messed up the axle by trying to full clean it at the end of the medley but still smashed through it.

24 seconds - 1st place

Event 3 - Axle Squat 160kg
In my head i thought around 12-15 would win this but the squat was a bit high and you could bounce the tyres at the bottom. It turned into a cardio event with the winner getting 26 reps!

22 reps PB - 4th place

Event 5 - Crucifix Hold (two 7kg sledgehammers)
Went on my own on this so no one to chase. No times were called so i had no idea how long i was holding on for. Just closed my eyes and held on!

1 min 7 seconds - 6 place

Event 6 - Stones over Yoke (100kg - 1point, 120kg - 2points, 140kg - 3points)
I was now 3 points behind the leader and had to win this event to stand any chance of taking first place! I opted for the 140 stone and needed to win!

140 x6 reps PB - 1st place

Overall - 2nd place

Over the moon with how i did and ended up 1 point from 1st place. I won the overhead and stones so happy to take those event wins. Now its time to get back in the gym, eat more and grow for next year !

Cheers big guy!! Yeah my pressing has started to move up nicely now, funny what training with a 245kg bencher and 180kg presser can do! haha
