here the thing with 18" deads they can be used to increase the individuals lock out , however i personally dont think it should be a comparitive measure between individuals of different height as every one has different limb/ shin length. now some one who has short shins will start with the bar above the knee which is a better leverage point as the bar can be rested on the thighs and as the legs are straightened they lever the bar up taking some weight off the lower back, making almost a straight upright lift. a taller person with longer shins has to use all lower back to break the bar off the floor to get it over the knees and then pull it into this position. essentially working alot harder to perform the same lift. a tall person will realise this when they walk upto the bar and realise they can't seem to get close enough to it to use there legs at the bottom , where as if it was on the deck they could bend there legs and the knees would go over the vertical direction of the bar. hence i think from the floor is a better comparitive measure of someones dead lift ability. also im not b**chin as i do 360 off the deck raw and a pb of 405 from 18". just my penneth. in a strongman show its tough titties but its maybe not the strongest off the floor deadlifter that will win as the pulls are completely different.

I really need to try these again.
You guys generally do 18" deads with straps?

I decided I was pish at these today. I was 220 of the floor and an 18" of 270 a few months ago. Now I'm a 240 off the floor and just 270 at 18" (on a good day). I need the speed off the floor to lock out nowadays.

I've been doing them suited, so i'll compare them to my raw suited (preparing for an equipped comp). My best off the floor is 260, and my best 18" is 300 which I do after floor work. I'll always fail my full deadlifts at just above knee height, so i'm not sure how on earth you guys manage to pull less from blocks.
