I dont think the 190 or 200 sets would pass in an IPF comp I'm afraid (as they are VERY stict I hear)

1st set of 180s would

all IMO

I would say borderline at best but wait for the more experienced GBPF lifters to give their opinion. Maybe try opening your knees more and sitting between them.

Good squatting regardless!

I think JC is on the money there - especially the 200s, I dont think any of them would pass.

Which comp are you doing?

I would of said they were all in. It is hard to judge with the loose shorts but still think they were good.

I agree.
I remember watching a vid of Tom Martin a while ago and couldn't believe any of his squats were red lighted, but red lighted they were! I'd add 2-3 inches of depth to be sure. Happy

Thanks for the comments, looks like I need a little more depth at least then, it's what I thought to be honest but I wasn't sure.

Adam, it's this one:

There were some good reps with the 180s. The 2nd and 3rd reps of those two sets was good. Then it was very much borderline from then on.

Some shorts can be a bugger for judging depth. Your shorts didn't look too bad in that regard. However they would prob look better, or at the very least people would be more certain, depth wise if you took a vid in your singlet.

Overall though I would sink them another inch or two and have done with. If you consistently well in during training you have room to manuvrere (spelling? lol) at a meet.

I agree - when he broke the junior world record deadlift, his red lighted squats were about 2" below parallel. Had he been Russian, I'm sure they would of been fine!!! Grin

The strength is there it is just tweaking your technique and working on your flexibility to get 1-2 inches more. Don't open with 200kg or you could be in for a shock.

E.g. quick example of a squat I would give

Personal opinion is the 180's look borderline, but in. However, being in, and getting passed are two separate things unfortunately. We have the luxury to pause at the right moment and be certain that they are in. Refs don't.

You might technically be doing a good squat, but you're leaving your lifts in the hands of human error. Any of those squats could be red lighted just as easily as white lighted, and you might have been "robbed" if the lift gets turned down, but ultimately it won't matter on the results sheet.

If you go another 2 inches lower than the 180's, you put yourself at a depth that would be very difficult to misinterpret as being high. This is where I feel comfortable, anything higher is risky.

Mike, your squats tonight were 2" lower than the 180's were in this video, FYI. By lower I mean hip-knee relation, not ass-floor distance.

Don't know who said it but remember someone saying this when I started lifting

"If you have to ask it probably won't pass"

Tend to stick with this mentality
