I thought inciting racial hatred was a crime? I understand freedom of opinion, oh yes! But that was my point and why they were trying to convict him. 'Inciting racial hatred' and I don't think it should be tolerated. I was not playing down the events of WW2 and think the holocaust was a disgrace but I hope society has moved on from then and generally it has. This is a modern problem and I look at the past to evaluate were people have gone wrong, but I am concerned with the present and consider the future. I don't want a future were extremists of any nature take advantage of the state and its people.

I am a bench-only guy Member 3, 10067 posts SQ 185, BP 175, DL 235595.0 kgs @ 140kgs UnEq Administrator | The fact that this remains a country where you can pretty much say what you want and indeed burn flags if you wish is one of the things that makes me proud to live here. If that changes much more (because make no mistake, the Daily-Mail-driven xenophobic petty little-Englander rot is truly in), then those who preach hate (including the Mail and Sun) and commit atrocities will have done what they wanted - destroyed a key element of a leading Western liberal democracy.

has spent time in a modern educational setting Member 47, 1221 posts | Post Edited: 12.04.2008 @ 10:08 AM by Pete The Daily Mail is a quality paper.Seriously, I honestly think that the Daily Mail is doing its best to destroy this country. The hatred that is created by that paper is immense. It still puzzles me how supposedly intelligent people believe the crap that they print. The thought of writing anything more on the subject just makes my blood boil. I've taken a deep breath. I can't stand the fact that any "news" paper has so much control over such a large number of people. The Mail seems to totally control the thoughts and actions of millions of people. I'll stop writing before I become too angry (again).

Society has become a lot more selective about what it has moved on from. If you think for a minute that there has been no trace of genocide or racial cleansing since 1945 may I suggest several informative TV programs commonly known as 'The News'? Mugabe, Amin, Pol Pot, Milosovich, Hussein are just a few obvious ones that spring to mind whose regemes are responsible for several million deaths. How we've moved on. I personally dont like what this guy is saying, but I love the fact that he can say it.

still a devious weightlifting bastard Member 43, 14379 posts | Very probably Joni. My point was that we havent moved on. It just doesnt happen under our noses now so no one really cares. Lessons havent been learned IMO.
