Hamish | Highland Strength Festival, Aug. 16th, Inverness, 2008 | 26-03-2008 @ 10:48
Member 262, 41 posts | Post Edited: 26.03.2008 @ 14:36 PM by Hamish Announcing the Highland Strength Festival, August 16th, 2008.To be held just north of Inverness on the Black Isle (near Tore). Given enough competitors there will be 2 divisions: an open and a 105s/novice, both running simultaneously. Individual events (likely 5) are still to be confirmed: they are open to suggestions from potential competitors (please feel free to comment). Referee for the day will be Jamie Barr (who needs no introductions!). There will be other events associated with the competition (to keep people without an unnatural interest in strongman happy e.g., young children). These are still to be confirmed but may include: Supercar show (event to be affiliated with Scottish Supercars) Off-road go-cart racing Bouncy castle Face-painting Children's sports competition Beer tent (obviously not for the young children!) We are in the process of organising sponsorship and plan to have decent prizes for competitors. The festival will also raise money for local charities. We are in the process of setting up a dedicated website for the competition which will be updated as details are finalised. We intend for each registered athlete to submit a 'bio' that can be viewed on the website. I'll provide details of the website once it's up-and-running.

Member 262, 41 posts | P.S. You don't have to be from the Highlands (or even Scotland) to enter! A good opportunity for our friends in the south to come up and visit a beautiful part of the world.

Member 262, 41 posts | A tentative list of events and weights (but, at this stage, very much open to change): 1. Log clean and press (each rep cleaned AND pressed) LW: ~90kg; HW: ~110kg 2. Car deadlift for reps - different vehicles for LWs and HWs 3. Medley - yoke, farmer's walk, tire flip (weights to be decided for LWs and HWs) 4. Stone or sand bag carry for distance - different stones/ sand bags for LWs and HWs 5. Stone for reps - back and forward over 4ft bar LW: 105kg; HW: 135kg The website for the comp will be up fairly soon where final events and weights will be given. Also details on registration, prize money and other activities/ facilities during the day.

Member 262, 41 posts | We've been working hard on organising the comp over the last few weeks and everything is fitting into place. Here's the fairly embryonic webpage (which will be added to considerably over the next few weeks). www.highlandstrengthfestival.co.uk The specific events are likely to be as detailed but the weights may change a bit. Any suggestions welcome.

abs by summer 2011? Experts opinions vary Member 290, 2552 posts | Sounds like a good crack. I rather fancy a go at the lightweights and combine it with a pleasant jaunt to the highlands (assuming I'm not on my jollys then)

Although, as I mentioned at the Fitlike comp, your girlfriend might give birth in Scotland and your child would have dual nationality!
