Cheers Si, it was close in the end but Rich did very well. To be fair to Jamie he hasn't done much training all year and his prep for the comp was nothing big. Big respect to him for having the balls to do it anyway, unlike some!!! I'm sure Jamie will be pleased that he got through it with no injuries and will certainly be raring to go next year. Big congrats to Rich and Emil, who are the real future of Welsh strongman. | ||

Severe dehydration and sunstroke was getting the better of competitors before we reached the halfway point. A hard fought comp in the sun and a well deserved win for Rich Smith. Emil won 3 of the six events and looked very good out there in a field of very experienced competitors - if he had lifted well in the first event he would have won the title yesterday as there was only 3 points separating him for the top spot. On a personal note; Thanks to all the competitors for putting in such a hard effort yesterday as the conditions were extremely hard to compete in. As you can see by my position and event placings, I’m pissed off this morning as I should have done better - arm over arm is not a good event for me and I made a special effort to f**k it up even more yesterday. Happy with my deadlift as it was 20kg more than I’d had in training. OH medley was a good event for me this year and I thought i had it in the bag until Rich Smith and Emil came along and stole my position from me!!! I’m appalled with my yoke as 22secs is terrible when the last year of graft has nearly halved that time... nearly! Still have a very tight and painful adductor which prevented me from continuing unfortunatley but I would have been so cautious running famers and an empty handed sprint would have been and still is out of the question. Top top it all, I didn’t get home from the venue until 6:45 as all the kit had to be put away and there was just myself, Richie Allen, Ziggy and a drunk friend of mine from the pub left to sort everything out. I really appreciate the help we had through the day from the loaders etc but wished some of them had stayed behind for half hour to help put things away. I can’t blame them though as it was simply too hot. Anyway... that’s enough moaning from me. It’s back to the drawing board but I’ll be back bigger, stronger and a lot faster next year.
