Man vs Food

This is a food challenge i did a few months ago the burger was 10lbs(4.54kg) total 5lbs meat and 3lbs condiments and a 2lb bun and let me tell you that burger wasn't f**king around. Me and my freind mike gave it a real good run and finished over 8lbs of it but we just hit a wall and couldn't chew anymore lol... looking back i think i could have finished we where so close and i felt ok.

4-9-11 highland games

On Friday i heard about some highland games going on in my area, and even though i had never touched any of the implements i figured why not lets just do it for fun, so i signed up, I get their Saturday and had to buy a kilt as i didn't own one, to my surprise it was very comfy and let alot of air flow lol...

First event 56lbwob
opened at 8 feet since i've never done it cleared it easy
9feet- cleared 1st throw
10feet- cleared 1st
11feet- cleared 1st
12feet- cleared 1st
13feet- missed all attempts but i did hit the bar so i was good for 12'6 i'd say
I placed first in this event

Second event 22lb sheaf toss
i knew i wasn't going to be good at this event as it looked very technical
i hit 16' but placed towards the bottom of the pack 6-7 place

3rd event hammer toss- i think it weighted 22lbs
my first throw i tried way to hard to throw it and fell over foul
my second throw i calmed down and just wanted a distance i hit 44'
my third throw i wanted to go alittle harder and get a good distance i hit 57'
4th in this event

4rd event- 16lb stoneput
i've never throw a shotput in my life as i'm sure you can tell from my video
i hit 30' 6" on my first throw that was good enough to win the class
my next two throw were ~27'
1st place in this event

5th event 56lb weight toss for distance
1st throw ~19'
2nd throw i got off balance and threw it about 4' lol
3rd throw i felt good and i think i got the spin down throw was ~19'

6th event- lightweight for distance i think it weighted 28lb
1st throw- just over 40'
2nd throw- just over 42' and the rotation and release was starting to feel good
3rd throw- just over 44'
second in this event

7th event caber toss- the caber was 18 1/2 feet and was 130lbs
1st toss i pick it and catch it with one hand run forward and throw it i get 45 degrees
2nd attempt- i goto pick it and it slips out of my hands, and like a dumbass i just stand their as it falls behind me and lands right on my shoulder, but like a man i just brush it off
3rd attempt- i miss the pick again- no throw
4-5place here

i placed 3rd overall out of 10 in the b class

i had never touched any of the events and i'm glad that i didn't i think i would have over thought it instead of just throwing the weight, although i do wish i had practiced with the camber a few times.. they have had these highland games for the past 45 years, i'll probably be back next year with alot more practice i want that first place trophy

4/14/2011---The Viper stand back

Like every Thursday I press, I have been really hammering my press lately as it is my weak point i feel i have made great gains, but i am never happy and will continue hammering away at my press until it is my strength.

I'm not a good push press or split jerker, so i have followed the lead of a few of my former training partner Mike Mastell and Vince Urbank(newest asc hw pro cocngrats) and working on my log viper press aka one motion, i know i have the hips power and explosiveness to pull it off, staying with it the past couple of weeks is really starting to pay off i'm getting stronger and it save my legs for later events, so i'm going to continue doing it for better or worse lol

log press
warm up
140lbs X 5
180lbs X 5
200lbs X 3

Work
230lbs(105kgs) X 4
250lbs(113kgs) X 3
270lbs(123kgs) X 1 viper press aka one motion
230lbs(105kgs) X 3 viper presses
230lbs(105kgs) X 5 viper presses inside of one minute

Thanks will and james.

James i'm working real hard on my overhead and should be fighting for second in the max log to you, so if i where you i'd just stop pressing and spend that time working on other events Wink Wink
