...ready for some serious training, tips, banter and competition!

Hello all,

I recently found this website after searching for some strongman training facilities in the South East area and I must say it seems a very informative and helpfull site.

My name is James and im 26 from St Albans area (just North of London). I have always been a huge fan of strongman however I have only ever trained using bodybuilding methods. I have decided that I need some competition and strongman is right up my street.

I was considering entering the Zeus gym novice class in the competition in May however it seems i have missed the deadline. From the thread posted by the organiser (and owner of Zeus gym, Sue i think) it sounds like they will be putting on another comp in November. This is my aim now!

As i said, my training has been in a bodybuilding style of 8-15 reps, 4 sets, 3-4 excercises per bodypart. I have never used any strongman specific equipment which is something im looking to address over the coming weeks/months.

I would apprieciate any help, tips or critism that you think could help. I coming into this with a completely open mind ready to load with information and who would know more then you guys?!

I have seen a few gyms in London that have a few pieces of strongman gear, also one in Reading however I dont think it would be wise to just turn up and start using the gear. Ideally, I would like to train with an experienced strongman to learn the techniques etc. Can anyone reccommend somewhere this would be possible? Im able to travel at the weekends, South East ideally though.

Cheers

James

No website.

£4.20 a session for the gym (Oly platform, plus the usual), £3 for use of the strongman stuff and as Ed says usually sat, but depends on who is there to lock up etc.

Sat & Sun 9am-4pm.

Welcome fella .......... This is the place to be .....

only been doing it since jan and made more improvements doing this style of training than in 12 years of gym bodybuilding.

Definitely room for improvement for me.

Cutting down my rep range massively. Did some deadlifts last weekend, managed 200kgs for 2 reps. I hadnt been near a deadlift in about 4 years prior due to a back injury but im concentrating on my form now.
