Martin Forsmark says on his Instagram that he has turned down his invite. Doesn't really say why other than not being 100% focused right now.

I would guess that the organisers will want at least one Swedish competitor, so with Arsjo out injured perhaps Johnny Hansson will be back

I'm going to take a wild guess at the field which will probably be totally wrong. I'm hopeful with no clashing contests this year they will be able to get most of the fit athletes.

Guaranteed an invite or already confirmed (and have not ruled themselves out) is

1. Eddie Hall (UK)
2. Laurence Shahlaei (UK)
3. Terry Hollands (UK)
4. Mark Felix (UK)
5. Graham Hicks (UK)
6. Luke Stoltman (UK)
7. Tom Stoltman (UK)
8. Brian Shaw (USA)
9. Nick Best (USA)
10. Rob Kearney (USA)
11. Hafthor Bjornsson (Iceleand)
12. Jimmy Paquet (Canada)
13. Konstantine Janashia (Georgia)

The previous years finalists are pretty much guaranteed an invite so -

14. Martins Licis (USA)
15. JF Caron (Canada)
16. Metjaz Belsak (Serbia)
17. Mateusz Kieliszkowski (Poland) - potentially injured

Norway's strongest man always gets invited -

18. Jorgen Skaug Aukland (Norway)

We always have a few from the southern hemisphere, and the South African strongest man is -
19. Johan Els (South Africa)

I'm guessing the others from the south will be -

20. Gerhard Van Stadden (South Africa)
21. Colm Woulffe (New Zealand)
22. Eben Le Reoux (Australia)

A couple more from the States -

23. Jerry Pritchett (USA)
24. Robert Oberst (USA)

My guess for the rest -

25. Johnny Hanson (Sweden)
26. Stefan Solvi Peturson (Iceland)
27. Dimitar Savatinov (Bulgaria/USA)
28. Mikael Shivlyakov (Russia)
29. Kristoff Radzikowski (Poland) - Possibly injured
30. Zydrunas Savickas (Lituania)

Dainis Zageris, would probably be the 1st guy on the list to replace any of the above European's.

I'll probably be wrong and it will be half filled with rookies I have never heard of like last year.

Hicks has suggested on social media that he may not do worlds this year. No idea on the reasoning.

Im thinking he mustve made it offical and gave up his invite as all other brits have confirmed their attendance and i cant see us getting 7 invites.

We did last year. Is Mark Steele invited? Little harsh if not as he beat Tom Stoltman at the Brits.

Did we? I could only recall 6. (Gough was only there as a reserve)

Also, paul smith has beaten mark and Tom more than once. Thats no guarantee of an invite sadly.

I know, just the comment Paul made about losing his WSM chances fumbling the 160kg made me think they had gone back to choosing the UK contingent based on Britain's strongest man.

Was Gough a reserve in the end? He made it on the first list of confirmed athletes when the groups were released.

He didn't replace Benni though. Charlie and Benni were both announced in group 5. Johan Els then came in and replaced Benni.

I don't know anything in regards to how they pick the invites I just assumed the top 5 from Brits were pretty much automatic.

Fair enough.

I wish the selection was more transparent. I see Heinla has posted a pretty sarky facebook comment on the WSM announcement.

He is someone who really should be getting an invite based on current ability but obviously isn't.

Nothing major

"It's so funny how, and who will decide who can compite"

I'm daft.

Do you guys think that the Z will compete this year? It's probably this year or never more.

I hope Z does. If he were to place top, it would be his greatest achievement ever Imo.

He is 41 and after a few injuries. Ed and Thor look stronger and you know Shaw will be in top shape. I also think Terry will put in a big performance this year.

Also I have to mention Mateuz. I think that kid is awesome and a great athlete. If there was a dark horse to podium, I would pick him, even over Janashia (spelling).

Basically just named half the field lol.

In other news, did I read Hicks break a world record on a particular log? Must check that out.

i'm sure Z will keep trying, but realistically it's probably game over for him at the top table of strongman. Greatest of all time imo, but time now to step aside.
