Even when paused for a second or two on the floor, they definitely feel much more comfortable this way. Then again, I'm hardly a deadlift rep beast like you... I should give the other style a go. And, Mr. Modest, you're far better than me at (probably) 90+% of the main lifts - as you already know.

Don't let your hips move when the bar is on the floor - stay really tight and the subsequent reps should be easier. We're talking about deadlift here though aren't we - different leagues between us Pete!

Still got a little bit of strength Member 400, 22873 posts | Some awesome dead lift repping going on in here! I hate dead lifts and I hate reps. My best ever reppage (done in comps) is 220 x 9, and 230 x 7. I don't recall EVER doing more than 3 reps in training, and anything over 1 was extremely rare.

Thanks very much, Ed. I get *some* DOMS from them but nothing too serious so far. I actually really enjoy them so I'm going to continue with the high reps for a while longer. I'd be happy with 220 for 20 and even happier with 240 for 15.

has spent time in a modern educational setting Member 47, 1221 posts | 13/12 It was my first session for a fortnight due to having a few issues after my wisdom teeth were removed. Deadlift I wanted to test my current max but I misjudged things slightly. My last warmup was a single with 240 kg and I then did a pretty easy single with 265 kg. The 265 obviously took more out of me than I'd first thought because I failed 272.5kg (pretty close to the floor). I think that I would have nailed the 272.5 if I'd skipped the 265 (but I'll have to prove that on another day). Split Jerks Up to 110 kg x 3 Front Squats Up to 120 kg x 5

Pendlay Rows Up to 125 kg x 3 Wednesday 18/12 Deadlift Having decided that I should have managed more than 265 last week, I was aiming to have a serious attempt at 270. However, pulling 240 - for my final warm up - was much harder than it should have been so I decided that a decent number wasn't going to happen and surrendered before the inevitable disappointment. Split Jerks Up to 120 kg x 1 Bench It was the first time that I'd benched for years; and it showed. Up to 110 kg x 2

I reckon that I'll now stick with the 18 inch deadlifts and the deficit pulls but I thought that I'd try a few other heights along the way. The mini-experiment seemed to confirm what I already thought - I'm OK from mid-shin and onwards but weak from the floor. I'm hoping that the deficits will help the weakness and the 18 inch work will familiarise my system with heavier loads.
