Trained at the Farm on Friday and felt sh*t. Deadlifts up to 195 & benching up to 100 then went home early, showered then drove through the night to France!
Trained at the Pontivy FA club on Monday night, nothing spectacular, squats up to 150 and benching to 5x3x100.
Very hot here!

I'm back! I did have every intention of getting several decent sessions in at the Pontivy FA club but a combination of alchohol, abcesses, septic tanks, lazy French, barbies and Disney kept me away. Consequently last night was my first time in a gym for two weeks, not ideal preparation less than two weeks before competition.

Monday 5th August.
Weighed in at 110.80Kg, I lost half a stone in France! Quite busy at the Farm, 10 people training, including two that i'd never seen before! Just 5 proper sessions before the All England so i'm fitting in more than usual.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
3 x 110
2 x 130
1 x 140
1 x 150
3 x 1 x 160
These hurt more than expected.

Bench.
20 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
3 x 90
2 x 100
3 x 1 x 110 All paused.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 140
2 x 160
1 x 170
3 x 1 x 185

The entire workout took much longer than expected, mainly due to hanging around whilst others chatted away for England! I've got a lot to get in over the next two weeks so theres little time for idle rabbitt.

Wednesday 7th August.

Weighed in at 111.00Kg. trained with James1, Frank joined us on the bench, yes Mr Absent himself, Frank!

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 130
1 x 150
1 x 160
1 x 167.5
1 x 162.5
3 x 142.5
All to plan.

Bench.
20 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
2 x 100
3 x 1 x 112.5 All paused.
3 x 3 x 100
These all felt much heavier than they should have, the 112's were all proper grinders.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 150
2 x 165
1 x 180
2 x 1 x 195
1 x 200
The orignal plan was 3x1x192.5 but worked in with James lifts. No problems

I'm not in that sort of shape at the moment Bill, i've had too much time away from the gym in the past 3 months so i'll probably open 170/110/200 and aim for a 510 total.

Friday 9th.

Twelve of us at the Farm, training with James1, James2 and Mark. No Forklift, RedPete, Stewart or Frank though.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 135
1 x 152.5
1 x 162.5
2 x 1 x 172.5
1 x 165
3 x 145
Squats are not feeling good at the moment, I cut the first 172 so did a deeper 2nd but it was very hard going.

Bench.
20 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
2 x 100
1 x 110 Paused.
1 x 112.5 Paused.
1 x 115 Failed, after the pause there was no strength left for the press!
1 x 115 No pause!
3 x 3 x 102.5
Struggled again, the very last 102.5 only locked out on the left.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 150
2 x 170
1 x 190
1 x 200
1 x 205
1 x 210
1 x 215 Fail, stalled about 3" off the floor
5 x 160
The plans was 200/205/200 but got a bit carried away with the group, should have not attempted the 215 really.

Just an average session a week before the competition, problems compounded by having a fall on Friday evening, I missed a step and went over on my left ankle which has been like a football all weekend, ended up flat on my face in the neighbours drive, even worse, no alchohol was involved, it's just an age thing.....Unhappy

I'll try and get two good sessions in this week then rest from Thursday until lifting on Sunday morning.

Poor effort on falling over, hope you didn't make a mess of their garden.

Sure you will get the 215 next week, you didn't have it down, so it didn't matter as much that you missed it, if it had been planned, sure you would have blown your head off to get it.

Interestingly though, its going to be a close battle with me, you, and the James total wise, need to stay with you guys come the deadlift, then should be a contender. Good inner club battle though for the much coveted title of 3rd best lifter (in absolute terms) at the club.

Mark, the neighbours gravel drive was embedded in my knees but they did no damage, the neighbour however thought there had been a minor quake!
My current forecast for the weekend is as follows:
Mark - 535.
Big James - 515.
ME - 510.
James1 - 505.
So you're favourite on account of your 230+ deadlift. However as your all seniors and i'm a Masters2 I'm probably stiil No1.

Monday 12th August.
Very busy at the Farm tonight, I counted 17 lifters at one point, with Forklift and Stewart making a return. Training with a swollen ankle, tight calves and grazed knees! Weighed in at 112.70Kg (Beer and Barbie yesterday). Tonight was singles up to planned openers.

Squat.
2 x 5 x 20
5 x 70
3 x 110
2 x 130
1 x 145
1 x 155
1 x 165
1 x 175
1 x 170
3 x 145
Better than on Friday.

Bench.
20 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
2 x 100
3 x 1 x 110 All paused under Forklifts long commands.
4 x 100
Not happy with these, the 110's were all good but there was not much else there.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 110
3 x 150
2 x 170
1 x 190
1 x 205
2 x 180
5 x 160
Stuck to the plan tonight, no problems.

I'll probably do a similar session on Wednesday, no point in tapering as Sunday's lifting will be just like a training session.

535 would be the best I can achieve I think, would need 9/9 and pb's across the board. Possible, but somewhere between 520 - 535 I would class as a good day.

Big James is a dark horse I would put money on 190/120/220 for a 530 total. Not sure about James 1, if he totals 500 will be good, as he is disadvantaged by his hatred of anything over 200.

I imagine you will go 190/115/220 for 525, so I think all 4 of us will be within 5-10kg of each other. We will see though, totals aren't built on speculation.

See you on Wednesday hopefully.

Wednesday 14th August.

Weighed in at 112.65Kg.

Squat.
10 x 20
5 x 70
3 x 110
2 x 130
1 x 145
1 x 155
1 x 165
1 x 175
1 x 180
3 x 150
No problems, the squat seems to be coming back together.

Bench.
20 x 20
8 x 60
4 x 80
2 x 100
3 x 1 x 112.5 All paused under command.
5 x 100
Still feels very heavy.

Deadlift.
5 x 70
5 x 120
3 x 160
2 x 180
1 x 200
1 x 212.5
2 x 185

Sunday 18th August.

All England Championships.

Squat.
Warmed up with
10 x 20
5 x 70
3 x 110
3 x 130
2 x 150
1 x 165
Platform
170 - Three whites.
182.5 - Two whites.
1 x 187.5 - Two whites.
I was originally hoping to go 175/182/190 but I felt very tired and warm ups did not feel good.

Bench.
Warmed up with
20 x 20
5 x 70
3 x 80
2 x 90
1 x 100 Paused.
1 x 110
Platform
1 x 110 Two whites
1 x 112.5 Three whites
1 x 115 Fail spotters took it before I had a chance to grind it out.
Dissapointed, the pause on the 110 felt long and I really struggled to press it out, the 112 was easy and again it felt like a very long pause on the 115 but it was still going up when the ref asked the spotters to take it!

Deadlift.
Warmed up with
5 x 70
3 x 110
2 x 130
1 x 150
1 x 170
1 x 190
Platform
1 x 200 Three whites
1 x 212.5 Three whites
No third attempt.
Totally knackered, everything went into the second pull and if the bar had been loaded to 70K for a 3rd attempt it would not have come up.

512.5 total, (came 2nd) my lowest for some years so very dissapointed, however off the back of just 10 days training and a 15 hour day on the Saturday I guess it should have been expected. All the Farm guys that put in a full weekend of 5 hours on Friday, 15 hours on Saturday and 10 hours on Sunday (Kev, Stewart & myself) suffered a little on the platform. Some of the others that just turned up to spot the lady squatters before sitting down to eat pasta for several hours before going home for an early night did fairly well!

Decisions - I weighed in at 110.0Kg on Sunday, the lightest of the 120Kg class however at 10kg below the limit i'm going to be fairly uncompetitive so do I put the best part of 2 stone on or drop a stone and lift in the 105's?

Next competition is planned to be the EM Unequipped at Letchworth in February, so 6 months of training and not having to do anything other than turn up to lift might produce better results, we'll see.Happy

Not bad in the circumstances. Preparation could have been a bit better and shed loads of platform work is not going to help

Was rice actually Happy

To be fair I did 2 groups on Saturday, then as lifting Sunday I stopped after that. But was back on the platform straight after lifting to spot/load for the big guys. So reasonable shift, Stewart was obviously the most dedicated of all of us.

However as the last 2 comps I haven't lifted in I have been there for a full 3 day weekend, think I earned the right to slack off and rest for the final 2 groups on Saturday.

See you Friday Ian.
