I got 185 not long back and i felt like i could get 190 or at least 187.5, but 187.5 wont come up past my knees and 190 barely leaves the ground. Should i just be more patient and keep training as i have been, or is there a way i can force my body to get stronger quick? Iv enterd a novice strongman comp in november where im gonna have to deadlift 185 for reps, and this weights my 1 RM, thats why im asking. What comp are you doing as I'm interested, regarding deadlifting drop the weight to 80% and do 5x5 at that weight adding weight each time you can do a full set if 5x5 do this for about 6 weeks and then change to 5 sets 3 reps and do the same for six weeks then start singles again, you will get strength faster by doing drop sets every now and again but regarding the comp any info will be welcome cheers mat

Member 1216, 194 posts SQ 240, BP 160, DL 280680.0 kgs @ 115kgs UnEq | 5 reps is a good target to stick to, my deadlift has gone to pot due to having no structure in my training. I am going to watch my form now and stick to sets of five reps instead of trying to pull wild singles when I feel like it. Going to get some chalk and stop messing about with straps which has been a recent bad habit.

pink french superstar beard Member 26, 4030 posts SQ 190, BP 0, DL 205395.0 kgs @ 75kgs UnEq | I deadlifted this weekend, last time i trained was in january and i'm convinced i can pull 200k on anyday. Now that isnt much, my point is i lift light weights fast all year long, squats and pulls. Speed is the key imo, move it fast and move it often, providing the weight is heavy enough so the rep is hard but not impossibe, if velocity is there you'll get that weight and more! It's a bit like those guys who train plyo in the summer time, jumping on piles of rubber weights or jumping stairs and all that. They dont lift like they usually do yet their squat and main lifts dont suffer from the lack of training somehow.

I think you are definately correct here, I need to work on speed as my lifting has been sloth like rather than explosive of late - its all going to change !
