aye, but personally i am looking for the heaviest and hardest novice comps possible. Since i have done one comp and since i did ok (and would prolly done better had it been heavier rather than so much cardio) may as well set my sights higher.

I wont diet down to u105s for sure. And I cant do the Opens (for 105+ kg real men) because they have s**t like "deadlift 280kg for reps" Grin

Just found this one in scotland:

1.Stone and object lift 5 stones onto a olatform
2.Mingis lift and carry for max distance
3.Farmers Walk max dist 120kg
4.Log press 100kg starting weight max weight
5.Car D lift max reps
6.Fire engine pull 25m with harness.

thats in Fraserburgh, near inverness on May 20th. beautiful weights. Placing last on a comp like that would be cooler to me than placing high on a light one Grin

hey, thats the beauty of strongman comps, you can find levels that suit you and especially when starting there seems to be quite a few nice ones to break the ice with!

yea open weight is very hard. U105 has alot of compition as well very hard to do well in it unless your very good.

Open weight in alot of ways is easyer, you just eat/take everything going untill you at the standard then your away. also because there are less competitors you have a better chance to place well.

It's a perfect comp for me as all the events would be strong ones (ie no squatting! Grin ). We should definately do this one Joni, and not the severn valley one as its too light.

Jonathan, why wouldnt you do both? I think the Severn Valley would be a good comp for Joni to get more experience and whilst they are not the heaviest of events, I think working towards them will make him a much better strongman.

Im certainly gonna try and make him do both.

I don't know Olly - the severn valley comp is a long way to travel for a comp that is actually lighter in some respects than the one we just did. I think that I will stick with the fraserburgh comp and the northern isles strongest man comps. That way I have one in May and one in August - well spaced Grin

Of course the travelling is quite a bit less for Joni!

Also, and I dont mean to be a prick, but id be surprised if you did the Severn Valley, you just came 3rd in your first comp, you dont need to be doing that type of novice comp. Im not gonna be happy if Joni does any more after this one. But, I think this one could benefit him greatly.

well, until i rep that 280kg deadlift, i have to be doing novice comps - fact. Grin

But the goal now is to pull 280 and do 125kg log by next year - hey stop laughing! Grin

This is the shetland islands comp Jonathan refers to as the august comp:

Sunday 5 August for the strongman.
Tentative events at the moment.
Log for reps - maybe 90kg
Max deadlift - bar with land rover wheels.
Roosk Stones - 100-150kg
Medley. Yoke 280kg for 15m, farmers 120kg, 15m, truck push 15-20m
Loading event or grip - depends on last sponsor
Husafelt stone for distance - not sure as depends if i get it made in next few weeks - any thoughts on weight - I was thinking about 120kg for a novice comp like this

now those weights are cool and doable at the same time! And it would be pretty cool to visit shetland islands Cool

If you came 3rd in a comp then stricly speaking you should think about loseing weight and going for u105 or training for open compitions, it depends on the promoters but some might stop you entering. There was quite a debate about rinngers in novice comps. not saying you are but as the sport grows there going to get more strict about who can enter the novice events.

The view from the guys from SDF was,

your no longer a novice if...

You placed in the top 3 of a novice show,
or you have competed in more than three novice events no-mater what the placeing.

It wasn't a novice show, it was a first timers, so I think they're OK for a few novice comps Woogi.

Agreed Olly - that comp in Scotland looks good!!
