All the russians I know from uni/work have no idea about the Klokovs and Akkaevs. NONE of my Chinese friends have ever heard of Lu Xiaojun or Lu Yong. You're right about Ilyin though. I think the only weightlifters who are genuine A-list celebrities in their home countries are the Iranians and the Kazakhs simply because they are responsible for 90%+ of their country's medals in the Olympics. | ||
