As far is can be discerned, she was prescribed it for polycystic ovary syndrome - not the nicest thing, and hardly something to just leave untreated. His comments do not sound like those of a great coach.

But from what the coach says she asked for an exemption and was denied So what she says is completely irrelevant, I don't care whats wrong with her, if she decides to take whatever it was she took (under doctors order or whatever), then DON'T COMPETE No ifs no buts

She's had a difficult decision to make and didn't get it right. People make mistakes. But he hardly sounds like he's been supportive. I would argue that an actual coach should have taken some responsibility for a lifter he regards as 'his,' and offered some help. Instead, he (claims) he told her what he thought then moved on - leaving her with the decision to take a risk and leave her condition untreated, or take a different sort of risk and take the medication. In her position I certainly wouldn't be putting him on my Christmas card list. That's not coaching. That's being the guy who takes credit for your success but disassociated himself from your failures. In short, not a coach. Just a wa**er.

No one believed him anyway. Member 958, 11411 posts SQ 410, BP 215, DL 4251050.0 kgs @ 100kgs UnEq | I dunno.... If the options are take the medication and don't compete Or take the medication and risk getting banned from competing... The outcome from both options, in the worst case is that she doesn't compete, and in the best case, that she gets to be healthy and carry on enjoying what she loves doing until she gets caught. There's not an awful lot to lose really, if the options are don't compete by choice, or don't compete because you're banned. Right or wrong, I understand her decision....

Surely worst case scenario is having her reputation completely tarnished and not being able to compete for a minimum of two years! Best case scenario is that she cheats and is able to compete but still has to live with knowing that she's cheated to get there.

Until a lifter fails a drug test they're clean in my eyes. And that's the way I think it should be. Besides, if she mainly competes in national competitions, then nobody else would be cheating. Everybody knows..."American weightlifters don't take drugs!" EDIT: yeah what Bryn said as well lol

But in weightlifting, especially at the international level, I am not sure how accurate that assumption would be.
