Hi all, Madjock here!
I am not really mad you know,I am a 50 year old man with a catalogue of injuries, still trying to get a 800kg total in powerlifting competition.
I am a s**t bencher but quite good at using the intermediate type benchshirt, ie Inzer phenom or my best, an old titan f6, I have a metal probencher and a Katana but they are just too much shirt for me.

I was a good squatter until my hip started giving me trouble and that started when I decided to give the Westside stuff a try, you know what I mean, the dreaded boxsquat, its my opinion that speed squats and boxsquatting, while good for the youngsters, can be bit of a too radical change for us silly old bas***ds.
I have squatted 310kg numerous times in competition with the odd near miss at 320 and this is using my old titan nxg centurion suit.
I have pulled 290kg once and 280 numerous times in and out of comp.

I tell you these things, not to brag, as these numbers are nothing to brag about today, what with regular 350+ squats occuring these days in the lower weight classes and good old Gerry McAfee squatting an enormous 370kg world masters record, in my class earlier on this year.
So you might ask what is my motivation for this shenanigans we call powerlifting?
Simple it's all about how you see yourself, and the joy I receive when i hear the clink and clang of the weights is something I can not explain but I am sure there are lots out there who know what I mean I AM A POWERLIFTER and though I am not going to set the world alight I have my own goals and they start with getting my hip fixed so I can add the odd kilo to my total and compete again.
So I am going to the hospital next Monday for a consultation with a top orthopaedic surgeon with a view to getting a Sclerosant injection in my hip joint and when and if I get this miracle cure(hopefully) I intend to bore you all by chronicling my training progress.
so watch this space!
Oh and Adam, I managed two relatively easy doubles with 250kg tonight on my deadlift, although my hip was agony up until that weight, so maybe I am mad after all.

Cheers,
Dave.

Welcome. Does this mean I have even more competition in the M2 Bench?!

Hi Martin,
Not likely! 200kgs + is way beyond me. I have had 185 up to within 1inch of lockout in competetion but benching is really my nemesis.
Thanks for the welcome.
Dave.

Hiya Madjock Grin

Heard you had a decent bar over their in MX - I may have to come over at some point and max out on squats with it if that's ok??

Good luck with the docs.

Hi Jo,

You are very welcome to come down and use my Texas power bar, I am there tomorrow about 4:30 ish onwards and on Monday about 5:30ish onwards too.
However I am off to Scotland next Wednesday and dont get back til the following Thursday.
I keep the bar hidden in the room with the Sunbeds (at Andy's advice).
It is a beast of a bar and the knurling is too coarse and sharp for all but the serious lifters like yourself.
Just let me know when you want to come and I will make sure that I will be there.

Cheers,
Dave.
Oh and by the way, the title of my introduction( Old enough to know better) is what my doctor said that I should be, when I went to him with my injury!

Did you squat on friday then mate? Or are you waiting until after the doctors before another heavy session?

Hi Adam and anyone else who might be interested.

Fridays squatting session consisted of more or less the same maintenance type routine that I have been doing while I wait for my hip fix.
I wore my loose old nxg squatsuit with the straps down as usual, putting my belt on when I get to 180kg(on the way up)and the old soft kneewraps when I reach 220.I use close stance til 180 and open up to just outside shoulder width from then on.
on the way down I put the kneewraps and belt on very loosely for the wind down set with 180 again.
so here it was:

Bar only - 12reps
60kg - 2x8
100 - 5
140 - 3
180 - 2
220 - 2
240 - 2

180 - 8

and today as I had very little hip pain I finished off the squat proper with 1 set of 10 with 140kg, no belt or wraps using a close stance.

Sweating like a beast in the heat I then went to 3 sets of leg extensions for 10reps(weight doesn't matter)
4 sets of leg curls,
2 sets of standing calf raises and a couple of sets of 10 on the "ladies" Abductor machine.

Really just treading water til I can get back into some decent cycles.

Had a look at the GPC world championships line up and some decent names there, Chris Jenkins among others should be a good show, pity it finishes on Friday though, wish I could have used my invite and competed!

Cheers,All.
